My first race bike
#116 - 12/22/03 10:55 PM (132.160.96.54)

This was the frame that started it all for me. 1983 was the year I took the plunge and bought my first real road racing bicycle. It was a choice between this beautiful blue Pinarello Treviso or a maroon De Rosa. I chose the Pinarello and never looked back. I raced on it as a Cat 4 until buying my second Pinarello in `84 - the same model frame that Alexi Grewal rode in the LA olypmic road race. In fact my frame came from the same batch imported from Gita and I was so thrilled to have it I wound up selling my first frame to a friend and continued to race the new frame until we got supplied with team bikes from Marinoni in 1986.

Looking back that second Pinarello was a real noodle but I didn't know it at the time. I just trained and raced the heck out it and loved every minute of it. These bikes bring back great memories but alas I heard the company has changed dramatically over the years. I would love to hear some comments on their high-end Prince and Dogma frames.

Aloha,

K.

Kahuna - I had (ok, still have in the attic) a Treviso also. It was a sweet ride. Columbus SL steel. The paint still looks pretty good (as well as the chrome), but the decals are worn off. It is going to be a fixer-upper project in another year or two. I looked hard at Pinarello as I shopped for a new bike (my first in over 15 years), but the Merckx geometry just fit me better. I hear nothing but good things about the new generation of Pinarello's.

Pinarello Treviso construction new [Re: Kahuna]
#9226 - 10/02/07 05:47 AM (70.111.166.169)

Kahuna, so was that original Pinarello Treviso construction superior to the second Pinarello you obtained in your opinion? I can't remember if they were all Columbus SL or a blend of Columbus SL in the main triangle and other tubing elsewhere on the bike. I do remember the SWEET cutouts in the lugs that looked especially sharp with contrasting paintwork.

Hopefully you still get that fantastic classic out on the road occasionally!
