Where to buy calipers (measureing) online?
#1298 - 02/13/04 09:35 PM (24.51.165.201)

I need to pic up a set to measure tube, hub, and axle diameters. I see biketoolsetc.com has a set of Eldi
http://www.biketoolsetc.com/index.cgi?id=801554718567&d=single&c=Tools&sc=Measuring&tc=Calipers&item_id=EL-541
for $6.50. Would these be accurate enough for my needs? For $30 they have a pair accurate to 1/50mm

Is the second pair worth the extra $20? Is there someplace else I should be shopping?

If you are only going to be measuring the coarse measurements you state, the $6.50 calipers will be fine. If you were gong to measure a lot of things a lot of times then the more expensive ones would be better.

I don't quite get what you are trying to measure. Axle and hub diameters are known. What tubes, and why?

Generally, I'd want a pair that I can use to verify seat and head tube diameters, along with axle cone lengths and headset stack heights. I went ahead and ordered the $6.50 set. Figured I would as long as I was ordering a headset wrench, 8mm hex socket and set of Fourth Hand grips.

$6.50 is not a bad price. Not sure where you live but in America most auto parts stores and Sears have digital ones starting at $8. And like one poster mentioned the more you use or the more accurate you want then you need to spend more money, but the one your getting should be fine.
