New Merckx Team SC new
#870 - 01/29/04 04:44 AM (24.226.10.98)

Finally able to join you all in posting after having some technical difficulties Registering!

I'm now a member of the Merckx family since getting a 2003 Merckx Team SC (transparent blue) 57cm non-sloping frame from GVH.

Set it up in full Campy Chorus (53/39 - 12-25) including Chorus Pro-Fit pedals, TTT Forgie bar and stem, Thomson Elite post with Selle Italia Flite Ti saddle and Campy Proton wheel set with Conti 3000's.

Only one problem! Haven't been able to ride it. The cars and trucks are having a tuff time in all this snow we are getting up here in Ontario, Canada ... never mind us poor pedal pushers!

The new ride will be quite a change from my old 1984 steel Benotto (now relegated to weather beater).

Nice! The Team SC is supposed to be one amazingly efficient race bike. Nearly everyone who's tried the Team SC has had nothing but praise for it. The stability, handling, and responsiveness of the bike should be second to none. I'm curious about the frame's compliance. I've heard people say it's not like the buttery smooth ride of Ti, nor does it have the vibration damping qualities of carbon fiber, but at the same time it's not supposed to be harsh either. That's good news.

Can't wait to hear how you like it. Pray for warm weather.

i only test rode a team sc, but i found it to be plenty smooth. i do own a pegoretti fina estampa, also made out of scandium, like the team sc. personally, i find the fina to be every bit as smooth as even my sweetest steel bikes, and as smooth as my ti ghisallo. the one frame i own that beats it, my ottrott, is far more costly. so far, i've been very impressed with scandium. in the right hands, it creates a very smooth, very fast frame.

Smitty - welcome to the club! You will LOVE it if you EVER get to ride it! Sounds like you have it built up SWEEET! I got my Race from Gary also - he is a good guy with great prices. I hope to add the Team SC to my stable next year. As for the ride, I think my Race is a much better ride than the old Paramount SLX I replaced. I also think that the Merckx geometry lends itself to riding smoother in Al than other comprable bikes.

Climb - I personally have not seen him, but everytime he is in town, somebody (in our cycling community) spots him training on his fav routes. He "used" to come out and ride some local races and training rides, but not much any more. I guess he is too busy running around with Ms. Crow!

Finally! ... First ride on the Merckx! Weather has been typically Canadian, that is cold and snowy. The cold I can deal with, but can't get out when the roads are covered with snow and ice. Today's ride was minus 11C ... Hard to breath on the down hill tucks!

This bike is one smooth riding machine. Loved the way the Campy group shifts. Chorus Pro-Fit pedals were also flawless. Seemed almost too easy to crank up hills (guess it might have been the "new toy" excitement taking over ... reality will set in soon!).

Did I mention SMOOTH!

Looking forward to some warm weather riding (and lots of it ... I might add!).
