I just joined this very interesting site. I see no one has posted on Lemond yet. Well, maybe I will be first. No pro rider here but lots of miles mostly downtown SF and Marin on my red Buenos Aires which has been great except for those lousy wheels they come with. A set of race lites has made a big difference. Luck to all.

Yeah, I'm sort of one.
My ride the last 6+ years has been a '97 Maillot Jaune. The thing is that was when it was an "OCLV Trek" with LeMond decals. Still love it though. I can't say enough positives about that bike.

Yeah, I'm one as well...it the winter that is. I have a 1998 Lemond Zurich that I ride during the winter training months. When spring comes, I ride my Calfee Tetra Pro. I actually really like the Lemond Zurich. It is comfortable and is very stable on descents. I have upgraded a lot of components on it over the years as parts have worn out. I've added a Hugi 240/Velocity Aerohead wheelset, Thompson post, King Headset, Ouzo Pro fork, Bontrager Stem, Cinelli Bar, Dura-Ace rear derailer.....It still ain't a lightweight at a bit under 20 lbs....

I have a mid-90's Lemond RS ti although lately it's been relegated to the back of my stable of bikes. It rides silky smooth and light, but is a bit flexy in the BB for sprinting and climbing. Reading this thread has made me put some attention on the bike, so I'll probably want to dust off the cobwebs and reconnect with her.

Yes, it's a ti frame fabricated for Lemond by Clark Kent before CK went belly up due to problems with welds on their ti frames.... but I think the problems were restricted to CK's own framesets rather than the Lemond frames. At any rate, my frameset is fine - it has a natural brushed silver look with Lemond decals on the downtube; some rather beefy wishbone style chainstays.

Thanks, I'm trying to identify my old lemond ti but I've never seen a clark kent of any kind to compare. I described mine in my other previous post because it seemed to have some unusual features. I'm not sure what wishbone chainstays are, or if there is anything unique about clark kents, but if you could describe it in more detail I'd be grateful, especially the seat stay join to the seat tube and seat post binder area.

The seat stays are straight round tubes which join with the seattube behind the TT/ST junction and just below the seat clamp. Nothing remarkable to report. Dropouts are standard modern vertical style. Chainstays are of a beefier diameter than the seat stays. By wishbone design I mean that rather than being straight tubes from the bottom bracket to the dropouts, they start back from the BB at a narrow angle, then around midpoint, they splay out as they complete the run to the dropouts. The result is better heel clearance when pedalling.
It's a nice looking, classic double triangle design, welds are smooth, but there is nothing remarkable or exotic about the tubes other than the chainstays.

Thanks a lot for the detail, sounds different enough (and probably nicer) than mine that I can probably rule out clark kent. Whoever made it it feels like a very nice bike to me, and from what I've heard it feels like it has the more laid back lemond type geometry, at least it feels more stable and comfortable to me compared to most other bikes I've ridden.

Just found this forum, and thought I'd add my $0.02: just got back into riding a few years ago, and bought an '01 Zurich frame (the blue/yellow 853 version) and love it. Had it built up with a really motley mix of stuff: Chris King headset; Ultegra BB, crank & levers; 105 front derailleur and brakes; Dura Ace 9 spd rear derailleur; Ultegra/Open Pro wheels. Gotta love that steel feel -- though I have to confess that I'm saving up for some kinda ti bike...

New to this site . . . was just wondering if anyone could give me a comparison of two frames that I have. I have a built-up 2003 Lemond Zurich with mostly Ultegra and want to compare it with a 2001 Maillot Jaune that I bought, but it is not built up yet. Any idea on which frame might be better? All I can see visually is that MJ cable bosses are on the headset, rather than on the downtube.
Thanks, Dan
