yesterday placed an order for my first IF frame, a crown jewel ti compact with carbon seat stays. i saw one freshly built at my LBS, and it was one of the sweetest frames i've ever seen. most of the frames i have are pretty subtle and understated in the color department. but i decided to break out of the subtle mold. my new IF will be (may i suggest putting on your sunglasses now) pearl orange. and IF will use their simpler logo on the downtube, just letters, no boxes. can't wait to see it and ride it.

definitely shimano. but not sure about 10- or 9-speed. i'm very happy with the 9-speed groups i have now. i've always heard that 10-speed groups wear faster. test rode a bike with 10-speed. very nice, with certainly some improvements. one other consideration: all my rear wheels now have 9-speed, so they're all interchangeable. not a big thing, but a nice thing. short answer: i'm undecided. suggestions welcome.

Climb I just purchased a Crown Jewel Ti with a 5 degree slope, built with 9-speed dura ace, wheels are Hugi hubs, Velocity Aerohead rims DT spokes, Easton EC90 carbon bars, USE alien seat post,Fizik Aliante saddle, Ritchey stem, weight 17.1 lbs. Have done most of my riding on the wind trainer, to cold for me outdoors. I didn't even realize they offered it with a carbon seat stay but to tell you the truth I think a full Ti frame is a better way to go, just my personal feeling. Let us know what you decide to build it with. What wheels are you presently running?

I've seen that color, it is way cool. Are you doing a 1/2 paint, 3/4? Can't wait to see a pic.

Congrats, Climb, that is one beautiful bike. PhatMatt (old Serotta board) had a Ti CJ when we rode in Italy and it was a beautiful thing. I think it will be even better painted.
I've thought about a steel one, compact too but it's back burner'd for a slew of other unfinished and incoming projects. YIKES!! TOO MANY!!!
Post pictures when it comes. Make us all drool... yerpal, dbrk

the folks at IF suggested 3/4 paint. they wanted to keep chainstays unpainted, 'cause of the peen finish. thought long and hard about seatstays--ti or carbon. i dig carbon forks, and given the sloping geo and tighter rear triangle, the added shock absorbsion of carbon seatstays made sense. plus, IF is gonna tint the carbon...ok, i'm a visual slut. thought tinted carbon could look cool with pearl orange. man, given how this frame will look, i better get faster!!! as for wheels, i now use open pros and k's. may try topolino's. something light. wanna turn this baby into a climbing fool...or is that me? should be built in 4-5 weeks. will keep you guys posted.

I really like the look of the IF bikes. How heavy do they weigh in comparison to other similar frames? I have a freind (cyclist) in the US who has said they are on the heavy side. Although not a major consideration I would be interested to hear your comments. thanks A

My Ti Crown Jewel, outfitted with everything (carbon bar and seatpost, plus DA-9) except pedals, is a bit under 18 lbs.

i haven't put mine on a scale, but based on my very scientific single hand hoisting method, mine is very light. not ghisallo light, but far from serotta stout.
