My son's new 54cm Specialized S-Works E-5 (2003 model) requires that the front der. clamp be mounted between the water bottle cage bolts on the seat tube. This prevents conventional bolting on of the cage. What is the solution for this?
Thanks.

A couple of things come to mind. One is to find a bottle cage whose mounts allow the cage to stand away from the frame and let the dérailleur mount underneath. Or, cheaper, Home Depot & Lowes have nylon washers of varying thickness that could be used as shims between the cage and frame. If you have to shim the cage more than 5mm or so, you may need longer mounting bolts. If so, Depot and Lowes have them too, but get them in stainless. Take one of your bolts with you as a size sample, it's metric.

Many thanks for the advice on solving this problem. This is my first experience with compact frame ownership.
