Boycott Spinergy!!
#1485 - 02/25/04 02:39 AM (66.135.253.9)

I would like to look into organizing, or at least encouraging, a boycott of Spinergy. I have never dealt with a bike-related company that is so hostile toward its customers and gives such poor customer service.

I have owned two sets of Spinergy wheels now, both have been rife with problems, and their attitude has just been getting worse. Their customer service policy - on the rare occasions you can get them on the phone - consists of "[censored] you".

Many Spinergy wheelsets have MAJOR engineering problems, of that there is no doubt, all brands at least have minor ones. But unlike the people I've dealt with at HED, at American Classic, at Rolf/Trek, and at Topolino, Spinergy doesn't seem to want to even TRY to solve problems.

The RoadBikeReview website is chock-full of bitter stories along the lines of what I've experienced. Many of the reviews rate Spinergy wheels 0 or 1 on a scale of 5 because the Spinergy people are such dickheads. I'm thinking of starting a web site called "SPINERGYSUCKS.COM", on which I intend to list all the horror stories. If anyone on this forum has a story about Spinergy to contribute - positive or negative - maybe you would care to post it here or else tell me about it in private:

SKUNKWARE (at) YAHOO.COM

The latest for me is I bought a pair of XaeroLites from a local dealer. After about 6 months, the rims started to lose their anodization, and a spoke broke. The dealer first tried to get me a set of new wheels, and Spinergy originally agreed, saying they had suffered a bad batch of rims, but then Spinergy reneged. Then the dealer tried to get me at least new rims, and Spinergy first agreed, and then reneged. Finally, he tried to at least get me a new spoke, and Spinergy responded by revoking his dealer franchise!

So now I can't even BUY a new spoke.

Outrageous, and I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it any more.

Thanks

Sorry to here your plight...that really stinks. Seems you have tried all avenues dealing directly with them. Have you reported them to the BBB. I have never used spinergy's and have never planned on using them...so I guess I will join the boycott.

Seriously....report their sorry butts the BBB. Can't hurt at this point.

Consider it done O' Mighty One. Your horror stories with Spinergy are enough to keep me the heck away from these knuckleheads.

Like you I've had nothing but good experiences when it comes to customer service at Topolino. It would be better to not need customer service at all but when you do it's nice to get prompt courteous help. The guys at Topolino care alot about the customer. They want to make a good product and thus far I've been very happy with them.

Sounds like Spinergy really blows ! Consider me another member but I never did consider their wheels. The bike business is so competitive there is no reason to put up with that kind of crap. There are too many other good manufacturers out there.
I just bought a new pair of Rolf Elans for my Calfee tetra Pro. They are a very sweet ride and very light.

Dave: Keep us posted on the performance/longevity of the Elans. Looks like an interesting wheel. I'm an XL guy and I tear apart wheels on a weekly basis. I blew apart a pair of Vector Pros in just a few months, but I'd be willing to give Rolf another try at some point.

How much do you weigh?

I know from many, many, similar posts that Spinergy sucks, customer service (!) and products too. I would never buy wheels from them. But not everyone has read those posts and ends up stuck with a pair. Such is life. But this question is just begging to be asked: Why do you own two sets?

Unfortunately, I've got some health problems which necessitate my using a soft-spoke wheel for any sort of serious mileage. I originally blew apart a set of Xaeros, then bought a pair of XaeroLites to replace them because they were supposed to not suck as bad. At the time, the Xaero family was the only game in town for me, so it was either ride XaeroLites or take up shuffleboard.

Now that Topolino has hit the market with a much better design utilizing the soft-spoke idea, I've switched to Topolino for my main bike, but I'm still stuck with the orphan XaeroLites, which Spinergy will not support.

In the ensuing time, in part due to cycling, my health has improved to the point where I can use a steel-spoke wheel at least some of the time, which is nice because any bike shop can fix them. And the guys at Topolino have been very cool with their customer support.

I weigh about 165-170 depending on the amount of junk I eat.
I'll let you know how the wheels hold up. Rolf wheels are now made here in Eugene,Or so that was part of my decision to use them. I met a bunch of guys that work at Co-Motion and they all said the wheels are great. We'll see.
