Axiom Paint Job - Posted pictures of complete bike
#1534 - 02/27/04 05:14 PM (68.158.147.228)

I posted three views of the completed bike showing the painted stem and fork. The work was done by Danny Green at Creative Cycle Works in New Orleans. The finished product exceeded my expectations. If you do a project like this, I recommend you consider including painting the stem and fork.

I was inspired by some of the paint jobs that Joe Bell does for Richard Sachs and Rivendell. Danny was extremely easy to work with and I gave him plenty of time (about 6 weeks). His pricing was also very fair.

I also posted pictures of this bike on the RoadBikeReview.com bike gallery. Danny (the painter) was really happy with the result so I wanted to showcase it as much as possible for him (Seven has actually sent a frame to him for painting and wants him to do more of their paint work).

I got ripped to shreds. You'd think I had violated some unwritten mantra about painting Ti frames. In a sense it was funny but at the same time it was sad that these anonymous posters could be so mean-spirited. Thanks to everyone on this forum for at least being polite and positive!

Don't concern yourself about the posters on the RBR bike gallery, they think it's their national sport to diss all the bikes that appear, and that it is their God-given right to do so. They seem to be borderline cretins. Hell, I almost enjoy the ripostes when I post a bike there. The first couple of times I took it personally, but then got into the spirit. When someone took me to task for daring to show "such a POS", I politely and in proper English told them what I thought of their taste, ancestry, upbringing or whatever. It was almost fun, because usually they didn't understand what was going on.

Not to worry even though I'm not a Seven fan I think the paintwork, particularly the design, is inspired. Your guy did a great job!

Axiombob,

Don't let those assclowns on the rbr photo gallery spoil your day. Judging by their content, it's probably safe to say the majority of them are of the uneducated grease monkey mentality. Most of them are anonymous hit & run trollers. It's one reason I stopped posting photos of my bicycles there and instead created an image gallery here. The gallery on rbr doesn't even have keyword or category search capability. They do have critical mass however, I'll give them that.

As for your bike, I wouldn't choose those colors for myself, but anyone with half a brain can see the artistry and craftsmanship that went into that paintjob. It is beautiful and all the more unique and special because the colors and paint scheme speak to you. To hell with those who don't understand the distinction between beauty and personal taste. Take comfort in the fact that these simpletons will probably never get very far in life. With their malicious knee jerk criticisms, they're likely doing battle with their own inner deamons, and half of them probably don't even realize it.

Aloha!

-K

Axiombob,
Gosh, I think your bike is just fantastic: handsome, singular, not too much, in line with Seven's colors but just different enough. In fact, I've never been terribly impressed with Seven's own paint (my Odonata is JB painted frost white) and think you got the better of this. As for the Cretans who can't find their way to praise or keep quiet, it's about what to expect in such a forum as that RBR. The comments are shallow, uninteresting, and nearly always unconstructive. Hang here. Much more interesting place and your bike reveals both that intelligence and imagination that makes cycling fun.

cheers,

dbrk

Bob,

I think it turned out great! My personal preferences are different than yours, but you should be very happy with the results!

I particularly like the bare Ti between the 2 shades of green.

I hope you enjoy the ride.

As others have stated... new [Re: Axiombob]

...the bike gallery is a haven for the "haters" out there who hate to see any bike setup other than what the "pros" are riding. I read the bashing you took, which makes me hesitant about posting any images in that gallery. Can you tell me whether the "Seven" on the downtube is painted on or bare ti? Seven has a new set of decals where the "Seven" is outlined and not filled in. The decal looks like classy-subtle to me, but I was told it costs $60 for a decal set and a 3-week wait for them. Anyway, the paint job on your bike does illustrate the care and quality of the painter.

The Seven logo on the down tube is bare Ti. We did that because it looks good and I didn't like any of the Seven decals even though I don't think I have seen the one you reference.

I like the bare Ti logo. The pictures do not do the paint job justice, you should see it in the sun. The pearlescent "celeste" and the dark metallic come alive!
