The weather is bad there too. From what I read only a few times this early season race has had to be cancelled. Pretty soon it daily riding weather.

Last week in Moscow, at the UCI Track World Cup event, I had the opportunity to work with Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne organiser Marc Vandevyvere. He was the President of the UCI Commissaires Jury for the Moscow event. Very cool guy, speaks 5 languages, very proud of the fact that he lives in the same neighborhood as both Dirk Demol and Johan Bruyneel, and proud of the impact Belgium has had on the world cycling scene.
As we rode to Sheremetyevo airport together in an event car Monday morning, it was snowing to beat the band. I was telling him I'd probably be surfing the next morning at home (Maui) and he made a remark about how "mild" the weather was in Belgium this time of year.
Oops.
He's the guy on the hot seat now, as K-B-K is Sunday. He was quoted on Cyclingnews.com today:

Furthermore we have two alternatives ready that we can follow if we can't follow the full parcours. In the most extreme circumstances, we can ride three laps of 50 kilometres around Kuurne."
Vandevyvere will wait for as long as possible before making a decision about whether to run K-B-K.
