Spectrum Tandem Owners?
#1569 - 03/01/04 02:51 AM (66.82.9.23)

My bestpal and I are looking around for a great tandem. Spectrum's lugged tandems have a huge appeal and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or impressions that they'd like to share. We ride close to the same size so it would be possible for us to trade off captain/stoker duties. Our primary aim is randonneuring, so we'd like lights, fenders, (at least as an option) and some oldschool touches rather than a pure racer style bike.

Ideas? Impressions? Tandemers out there?

I have a TK tandem which I love. A lttle about my tandem I am 6'5' and go around 205 lbs and ride my bike with my now 9 year old son on the back. We made a adaptor to move the pedels up to another bottom bracket. This works well and soon he will be able to ride without that. TK designed the bike so that it will fit up to a 6'5' rider on the back without the adapter so when my son gets stong enough he can pull his old man up the hills. The bike is like fine art and you will not find a better built bike. Good luck and e-mail if you want pictures

we are super pleased with Sam the blue-fade tandem. Not only beautiful (even the stoker handlebar tube and the tire pump fade) with lugs galore, Sam has a springy responsiveness that pleases the captain without the tail sway suffered by the stoker on our Burley. We are both over 5'11 and total ~380 lbs, disproportionately tilted to the back. More ways to configure luggage bags and enough waterbottle brazons to turn heads at group rides. (I drink 10 - 20 oz per hour, depending on the temperature.)
