Hi,
I just bought my first Eddy Merckx frameset, a NOS 1996 Corsa 0.1 that I built with a matching '96 Record-8 gruppo. I find the commaraderie amoungst Merckx owners second to none.
I've ridden only one steel bike from the early 70's until about 1999 (an old Motobecane that I still have), when I bought my first modern aluminum bike (with index shifting!). After another aluminum frame, and then a full carbon bike, I just couldn't get the ride of steel out of my mind, so I went "back" so to speak. I haven't ridden it outdoors yet (minus 18 degrees this morning), but I can only anticipate the magic ride promised.
My friend in Colorado who turned me onto Merckx bikes is starting a Merckx owner's registry. He's hoping to have a website up later this year, but for now he's collecting names, email addresses, mailing addresses, and bike info if anyone is interested. Very informal, but something that could come in handy someday.
Hope to meet and ride with some of you someday,

Dave (seems to be lots of Dave's on the forum!) - Welcome to the Merckx "family". That is a sweet ride you have there. I am looking for an old one myself. I have an Al Race and love it but would like to have a steel one again too. I did a club ride yesterday with about 15 people. There were a couple of Trek's, 2 Colnago's and a smattering of others, but 4 of us had Merckx's - and there isn't even a dealer in our town any more! 2 guys were riding the old steel ones and they still love'em.
I am sure you'll enjoy it when you finally get to ride it!

Thanks for the welcome, BubbaTex. Our club ride at my local shop has about 30 regulars, and no Merckx bikes. He was a Merckx dealer about 10 years ago, but apparently none of the bikes he sold are around now. One fellow does have an old one, but he rarely takes it out - he's content riding his Trek 5200 like half of the rest of the group. Maybe having mine in the group will get him to bring his out more often.

dave--how do you like the ride of your corsa 0.1? i just built up a mid-90s MX Leader. very nice ride, smooth, stable. if only it were lighter. curious how the 0.1 differs in ride.

Am not Dave but I just built up a NOS Corsa 01 that looks much like the one in his gallery picture--same color and size. After a break in the winter I was able to take it out for a couple of rides recently. I have been out of cycling for quite a while so I cannot compare its ride with modern frames. But my previous bikes were steel classics--a Colnago Mexico and a Masi. The Merckx is definitely stiffer than the Colnago, maybe a little stiffer than the Masi (which had a SP rear triangle), and about equally compliant. It also seems to be a very stable bike--but I haven't had it up to 50 yet! So far it seems like another great bike. BTW, if you look around on the Web you can still find a few shops that are dealing in Corsas; valleybicycle.com is one.

Hi all,
Sorry I posted and ran - I guess work calls too often!
I wish I could comment on the ride of the Corsa, but I still haven't taken it off the rollers yet. When the salt gets a bit more washed off the roads here in Maine, I'll ride the wheels off it and comment.
