I've often thought that generally speaking we (cyclists) are a pretty good bunch of people, and that perhaps society as a whole might be better if more people were like us in the way that they look after themselves and look out for others. Generally speaking we're:
- concerned about our own health and fitness, as well as those close to us. - a co-operative and friendly bunch who greet a fellow cyclist with a wave and an offer of help if we see someone who might be in a spot of bother. - environmentally aware and appreciative of the beauty around us. We can enjoy nature without spoiling it for others.
Say the cycling population of this country was to increase 10 fold over the next 10 years, how would society be improved? Would the health problems of the nation be drastically reduced, would we get along better with our neighbours, and would we be a more environmentally responsible nation? Is it realistic to think that it's cycling that makes us who we are, or are we good citizens who also happen to like riding a bike? Or is it somewhere in between?

I have to say that I see more cyclist then ever. But I also see more obese people then ever. I just wish people would get out and enjoy the great outdoors more often. Too often you see families in malls, fast food restaraunts, ect. But never out enjoying a walk or things like that. Yes, I see cycling increasing but I think is those who would be active anyways.
