old lemond merlins?
#1625 - 03/06/04 02:27 PM (218.145.25.19)

Just wondering if anyone might have info about when merlin made bikes for lemond, any info about those frames. I have one that doesn't look like a litespeed or a clark kent from what I've seen but not sure about merlins. This one has seat stays that join to the outside of the seat cluster and are bevelled there the way many older steel seat stays look, seat post binder is integrated on the seat tube extension of a couple of cm., horizontal rear dropouts. Painted a metallic blue to grey fade with a yellow and red decal scheme like on old lemond calfees.

Please post a photo of your Lemond/Merlin. Would like to see a close up of the seat cluster. BTW - though the blue to gray was the classic color, the paint scheme that I always liked was the metallic red to gray fade. Those seem hard to find.

Thanks,
R

Sorry for no picture, I know one would be worth more than a thousand words but the bike is in storage far away for now. I'd better try to clarify anyway. I really don't know if mine is a merlin, I haven't seen any others like it close up enough to compare the unusual - only unusual for a ti road frame -seat stay join. It's just that whenever I asked anyone about it it's always clark kent or litespeed until the seat cluster comes up and then they scratch their heads and say maybe merlin. All the tubes on this bike look round and straight, seat and chain stays aas well. Got it second or third hand with no history but it came with campy record brifter 8sp, delta brakes, ibis ti stem, syncros ti post, matching painted carbon fork. Anyway I'd be grateful for any more info on the bikes you were speaking of even if mine is something else, especially if they had that calfee/lemond type decal scheme.
