Anyone ever broken a spoke on Race Lite wheels? new
#1633 - 03/07/04 05:21 AM (209.209.197.215)

I went for a ride today and 10 miles into it a spoke broke on my rear wheel. I was going to ride it home (after weaving the spoke through other spokes to keep it from rattling and flopping) but the wheel was out of true too bad to do it. I got the bike (5200) in June of 03 and this is the first problem I've had with it. Anyone ever had a problem with Race Lites? All replies appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Did you fix it yourself? Did you get another bladed spoke?

I've had my Race Lites for a little over a year and no spoke problems, still very true without any maintenance.

I think if you had loosened up the spoke on the other side of the broken one you could have made it home carefully.

I see a lot more problems with the low spoke count wheels that aren't paired spoke designs - like Ksyriums. But maybe that's just because there are so many of them out there.

I had Race Lites on my 5200 for 4000 miles. Never had a problem even though I could be classified as a Super Clydesdale.

I took it to my lbs and he put another spoke on it. That's the first time I've ever broken a spoke. I weigh 195, but I haven't heard about any weight limits on Trek/Bontrager stuff. There are guys in my club who weigh more than me and they ride 5200's and 5500's. In praise of the Race Lite's I've never had to have them trued since I got the bike.
