Finally received my new Dragonfly (16 weeks). It is a custom 60 cm with '04 Dura Ace drive train and brakes, USE carbon post, King HS, Aliante Ti saddle, BarStem, Reynolds new clincher wheels... Nude with Cobalt Blue lugs and dark decals. Looks great a real head turner IMHO. Total weight w/ shimano pedals and bottle cages (2) is 16.5 lbs or about 2 lbs less than my Tetra Pro it is replacing. Could easily get into the 15.8 - 15.9 lbs range with my race wheels and a few lighter parts. Have not had a chance to really ride it yet but will post some pictures and a follow up after I get a chance to put her through some miles. While it took a long time to get the bike the gang at Calfee were always responsive and communicated well. They just have a lot going on and as we all know have some groing pains, been there done that myself. This is my 3rd Calfee and each one has been great. Anyway I'm pumped and will have my weekend booked, sorry honey!
Thanks Calfee!

congrats on your new ride. couple of questions though. 1. what kind of race wheels do you ride that would be any lighter than reynold's carbon clinchers (im assuming that much of the .5 pounds you mentioned you could loose by swapping wheels and components would be mostly in the wheels since your components are among the lighter components available, with the exception of the aliante and the bar stem; note: im a weight weenie and love to hear what others are riding)? 2. does your frame have a clear coat or is it nude carbon. the reason i ask is because the dark decals are onion thin and will peel off with the slightest touch without a clearcoat over them.
enjoy your new ride and be sure to post some new pics; the colbalt blue lugs/nude/clearcoat/dark decals, whatever it may be, sounds interesting.

My race wheels are an older set of LEW wheels w/ tubulars. I weighed the Reynolds front wheel (w/ tires and skewers) and I do not remember exactly but was like 2.1 lbs if I recall and the LEW front complete was 1.9 lbs. I did not check the rear but it will be similar. The frame is nude (other than lugs) so no clear coat, I'll take my chances with the decals. Other places I could save weight other than what you mentioned would be pedals and myself!
I will post some pics and opinions of the ride in the next week or two.

I just got my Tetra Pro back and got it's first ride in today. Christened it with 70 miles and 3,800 ft of climbs. What a gorgeous day up here in Oregon. I LOVE this bike!!!
Vital stats: 56 cm/1 cm HT ext. DA 10 DA wheels Mich Race Pros Deda Blackstick Deda Newton Deda 215's DA pedals Flight saddle 17.0 lbs
I figure with a lighter seat and a set of Rolfs I'll be down to 15.75 lbs...not that I'm a weight weenie...but I could be. Sorry Dave D

That's a fine ride you have there vaxn8r- I like the paint scheme better on your new frame. You made the right decision on having the frame redone to what you wanted.I alos love my new Tetra- Pro. I now have about 400 miles on it and as I tweek it to fit better I love it even more. He's the stats: 58 cm fire red with fade Da 10 speed with FSA "Tyler" crank FSA carbon bars FSA K Lite 115 stem FSA carbon post with Aliante Ti saddle Speedplay Ti Rolf Elan wheels Specialized Mondo S tires Still figuring out cages Weight 16.4 lbs Ok, soI am a weight weenie, but that's 'cuz my motor is 50 yrs old and I can't lose much from my 6'1" / 165lb frame. Trying to keep up with all the hot heads is impossible, but at least I love the ride. My only complaint is that the bike is so light that on descents I get a bit nervous over 30 mph if the road is the least bit rough, which most of them are around here. Enjoy the D'fly and the Tetra

Congratulations. Did you happen to weigh the frame before you built it up?

No I did not weigh the frame, I had Calfee build it up so all I can tell is the final weight. I have already swapped the brakes out for the new Gravity Free brakes and knocked off another .3 lbs. One thing I have verified is that the Reynolds Clinchers are light but not super light. My Topolinos are slightly lighter. I 've only put about 20 miles on it so far and it just feels smoother and quicker than my Tetra Pro. I am going to try and swap wheels back and forth Sunday and see if they are making the difference or is it the frame. I will also try and post some pics Sunday.

A custom D-Fly w/ Cobalt Blue lugs? Well, I'm pumped too. Get those pictures posted ASAP (but do not let that interfere with your weekend mileage ). Would be nice to see your Calfee herd together to compare and contrast. Have fun riding!

Two pics are posted (one maybe waiting approval) and I will try and get a group picture up in the next few days, that was a good suggestion.

hey jeff,
are those cat claw/zero gravity brakes on your d'fly? if so, what are you intial impressions? do you have any experience with cane creek sl's to compare? are they easy to set up? i was running the cane creeks for a whole week, but they were just too much of a pain to deal with. hope the zero gravitys are better, and if so, i may just try them out.

If you click on the one with the red X you can view it. I've noticed that this happens sometimes. I have no idea why.
It is a beautiful bike Jeff. Congratulations again. I shutter to think how much it cost.
I like the blue lugs more than the cabernet red they show at the site. They blend in yet stand out at the same time. They also go well with the dark decals.
Happy riding.

Re: The Zero Gravities: To early to tell how good they are but they were very easy to set up as in there is no way to adjust toe in unless I'm missing something. So far the front one squeals mildly but I have not done the usual things to fix yet. I will let them break in for a few more miles and clean the rims good and see what happens. I hate brakes that squeal so if I cannot resolve the Dura Ace will go back on! Also note that I live in Florida so we do not have hills to stress brakes so anything I say on them is from a flatlanders point of view. If I get to NC this summer that will be a better test.

If they fit I'd recommend trying a pair of Kool Stops. First I feel they have superior stopping power. Moreso they have a built in angle so toe in is not needed. They could end the squeal.
They have one style called Dura Style for the new Dura Ace Design. I am not sure of the others.
Good luck. I'd really try them before I give up. I've never had them squeal and I never toe them in.

The brake pads that come with the brakes are Kool Stops for carbon rims. My feeling is that they well shut up after a few more miles. Rims probably still have mold release and other stuff still on the surface.
