Bike Tour new
#245 - 12/26/03 06:02 PM (64.136.134.242)

Looking for info from anyone who has done week long suported bike tours in the past. This summer I plan on rideing a bike tour, most likely the tour of Wyoming. This is the type of ride were your gear is trucked to each over night stop for you.
The info I'm looking for is:

How many bike shorts and jerrsy's

Did you use a tent or sleep in the gym I see
many rides have that option

Did you find a week of riding tuffer than you
thought

Any other info you think would be helpfull

You may want to post this in the BFC's 'general discussion' section.

BTW - many of my fellow riders participated in Bike Across Kansas (BAK) and they had a wonderful time. They had their bags/belongings moved by support crews and they slept/showered in school gyms. They averaged about 65 miles per day and the one older gentlemen I spoke to didn't seem to mind the mileage (but he also stays in good shape throughout the year).

I missed the BAK this year because I was 'forced' to vacation (and ride) in the Caribbean....oh well, maybe next year.

Best of luck...

regards,
R

Hi SoKal,

I did the California AIDS Ride a few years ago - 580 miles in a week. It was a great experience.

I wimped out and stayed in motels each night. I'm over fifty years old and did not want to have to deal with putting up a tent each night after pedaling for eighty-plus miles, or packing it up in each morning. Plus, I did not want to sleep on the ground and risk waking up even more sore than I would simply from the riding.

Since our gear was transported each day by a support vehicle, I brought a clean jersey and pair of shorts for each day. Why not.

I was surprised at how relatively easy the ride was. I seemed to get stronger each day and was prepared to keep on riding after the seventh day. I was sad to see the ride end.

I am going to do a seven-day PAC Tour in Arizona this Spring with similar daily miles.

A bike tour of Wyoming sounds spectacular. Enjoy.
