Kahuna,

Thanks for making the changes. BTW - will you allow users to delete or edit posts after the forum's time expiration has elapsed?

Thanks, Merry Xmas.

Yes, both editing and deleting capability was enabled for people that have registered. It doesn't really make sense to have one but not the other.

Aloha,

This is the message I get when I tried to edit an old post:
"This post can no longer be edited because the maximum edit time has expired"
There does not seem to be a 'delete' option either..

Ah yes, apparently this is a feature - I guess to prevent wanton removal of messages after-the-fact, something that could destroy the context of a thread if other people had already replied. The idea I'm guessing, is to leave a window of opportunity open to fix spelling and syntax mistakes, but not long enough to open the door for possible sabbotage. The default was set to 6 hours. I just upped it to 24. Seems reasonable don't you think?

This is something to think about...this needs feedback from other forum users.

I was concerned about a writer's 'morning-after' syndrome. We may write things that we later regret. Or if by chance one of us has to testify before a Senate confirmation hearing or the like, some smart-a*%@ staffer would be able to pull up all of our less than flattering BFC posts. (yea...delusions of grandeur)

Is 24 hours sufficient?....probably, but others may want to weigh in on this. Nevertheless, your intuition is likely correct, if we had unlimited ability to edit and delete it could destroy the continuity of the entire forum.

BTW - if a user was able to delete a post with multiple replies attached to it, would that 'virtually' delete or remove the entire thread with it?

thanks,
R

RDP,

I'm not sure if deleting a message would also remove any children (ie. replies). I suspect it wouldn't and instead re-order the thread. It may be worth a simple test to find out.

As for what happens at the end of the edit window - using your Senate confirmation hearing scenario for example, that would be a case where the affected person could and should contact the forum admin for help.

The more I think about it, the better I like the idea of a reasonable window, but not left on indefinitely.
