Lance ... new
#2565 - 04/25/04 10:01 PM (144.126.201.102)

with Lance's stellar performance at the Tour de Georgia, what do you guys think his chances are at this year's Tour? esp. considering rumors than Ullrich has been slacking on his training and has dropped out of many early season races? anyone think hes doing too much too soon and will peek too early? im just interested to hear what everyone else thinks. hopefully, i can get my parents to allow me to lengthen our trip to europe (actaully leave a week early) so that i can be in paris for the final day. we'll see. anyone else going?

Hey!
Have fun in France/Paris! I was in Paris for the final stage in 2001. GREAT FUN! If you manage to rearrange your schedule to get there for the final stage, try and walk the circuit while your out doing "tourist" stuff. That will give you a good feel for where you may want to hang out for the day of the race. ...that is of course if you decide to stay in one location. And, if you decide you do want to "camp" in one spot, get there early!! Bring food and drink.
FWIW, my wife, some friends and I and chose to watch from the street north of the Seine just west of the Louvre (Quai des Tuileries?) for two reasons.
1. The location was just across a bridge over the Seine and accessible to our hotel. ...easy bathroom location!!
2. The road is tree lined and provided shade for the whole day. Might sound kinda minor and it may not be something you would miss, but I know we certainly appreciated the it.

Also, I noticed that for several years (prior and since) that the barriers angled out into the road at some point along the length of that roadway. If you watch from that point, you have an unobstructed, head on view during a straight away. That perspective is difficult to obtain unless you stand on the outside of corners. Anyhow, great photo location. Bring a good camera with long fast lens.

Regarding Lance's chances: IMHO, it's still too early to tell. I am sure though that he doesn't care what Ullrich (Hamilton, Beloki, Vino...) is doing currently. He can't control those factors and can only worry about himself. Converse applies as well. If you want an actual statistical probability of his chances for winning, all I can tell you is that it is significantly better than 1:189

Oh yeah, don't forget your cow bell!

Lance will win again.
It will be tough. Ulrich could be playing some mind games, and Vinikourov could pose a challenge, but I think Lance will pull through.

Sorry, Tyler is going to win the final time trial on stage 19 to seal his win over Armstrong and Ulrich. Armstrong will throw everything into the defense of his jersey... not caring for just a podium place. This will cost him as Ulrich passes him for second.

Lance has some competition, for sure, but I think he will pull it off one more time. If not, then I hope Tyler or Hincapie takes the yellow jersey. Ulrich could very well be playing games, but he has a knack for having problems getting in shape for the tour. Time will tell.
