CT2 HP vs Dream HP? new
#2916 - 05/13/04 04:05 PM (24.126.1.33)

Hi all,

Just curious if anyone has any opinions about the difference in ride quality (comfort) between the CT2 HP and the Dream HP.

I know the obvious answer would be that aluminum is always a rougher ride than Ti. But, if you think about it, the rear ends and the forks are the same. B-Stay and Hp carbon rear end and Force Fork with a carbon steerer.

So, given that the front and rear of the two bikes are the same, dont you think the ride quality would be very similar?

Please, I'd love to hear others opinions on this. Maybe I am missing something...

As always, thank you all in advance,

Steve

I've ridden both bikes but not in the HP configuration, so the comparison is fair. I also place more stock in geometries, wheels and tires, and fit than in tubing as a source of difference---but when you cross from one material to another the tubing makes more of a difference. In other words, two identical in every way but differently tubed steel bikes will be MUCH more alike than ti is to, say, aluminum.

I may be flogged around the fleet for saying this but let me begin with the disclaimer that I have owned a slew of aluminum bikes and the ONLY one, the only one by a long shot, that I have truly loved is the Pegoretti Fina. I have no idea how Dario does it because ever other aluminum frame I've ridden in the past five years has eaten me up, caused me to require dental work, and otherwise made my old bones feel much, much older. In short, I really did not like any other aluminum bike (wanna list? it's long...and I've not ridden a Cannondale in that spectrum of five years, only earlier versions) than the Pegoretti. By far the worst riding of all the aluminum bikes was....tadaaa...the Colnago Dream. Beat the livin' crap out of me. I _wanted_ to love this bike. I bought it as a go-fast, no compromise racer. I bought it knowing it was not a comfort machine. I sold it without a shard of regret but for the custom paint job (mine was a long, long wait and a 1996 Mapei job, before the boxes and of course without the little mtn bike looking man on the toptube, love him or hate him, I am in the latter group...). The CT2 is a much better ride, by leaps and bounds. More forgiving, more comfortable even in its racy role.
Not even a close comparison and I am very, very skeptical of tubing as the nit to pick.
