Ti Planet X owners
#3293 - 06/04/04 11:37 PM (192.252.76.200)

Looking for Ti Planet X owners. I don't see many post about the Planet X bike. I believe that a cross bike is a more versatile bike for my use. There is more configurations I can do with my bike. Road tires and cross tires, a touring bike, or riding the road and a little single track. I have a Ti Planet X on order and would like to see some pictures and comments on this bike. What kind of setup do some of you other riders have on your Planet X? I ordered mine with the steel fork and disc brakes only, fender and rack eyelets, and Pearl Orange 3/4 paint with reverse panels. If you have a steel frame I am also interested in your comments as well.

Are there no Ti Planet X, or soon to be, owners out there?

I have 2 Ti Planet X bikes. They might be the best bikes ever made. I have a painted one and a raw Ti one.

Both are built with DA 9spd, Frog Legs brakes and top mount levers, Zepp stem and Deda 215 bars, Thomson post and SLR saddles, and most importantly the wheelset are Chris King hubs laced to Mavic Reflex with Grifo Challenger tubies. It is a terrific ride.

How about yours?

Can you post some pictures? Sounds like you are not from the USA, what part of the world are you from? I am having my bike built to be disc brake only, 135mm rear spacing and a IF steel disc only fork. It will have rack and fender mounts front and rear, three water bottle mounts and a pump peg. IF went to extra effort to make sure the rear rack eyelets would clear the disc drop out, that is a complete story in itself. I have Alex rims that are disc only 700c rims, which I didn't know was available until I started planning this bike and 36 hole rear and 32 hole front Deore M525 hubs. I haven't recieved my frame yet. I called IF today and it looks like it is going to the shot pener tomorrow, then paint next week. I probably won't see it until July 11, 2004. I will be doing the build myself. The only thing my LBD is doing is install the pewter Chris King headset, since I don't have the neccessary tool. I have a mix of parts, Ultegra triple 30-40-52 crank, 105 front derailler, Deore LX rear derailler, Sram 11-34 cassette. I have Avid mechanical road lever specific disc brakes and Salsa cross levers on top. The shifter/brake levers are Tiagra. IF is painting it with Pearl Orange 3/4 paint and reverse panels (raw TI where the panels would be). I plan to use the bike mostly for road riding and maybe some lite touring and a little single track. No racing, just recreational riding. I believe this bike will be an excellent all around bike for my use.

You're bike looks awesome!

So how does the paint look in real life? I can't wait to see the pearl orange on my frame.

I'm still looking forward to receiving mine. IF did send me pics of it though right after welding. Unfortunately I'm going to be getting it later than expected.

Pearl Orange new [Re: LowCel]
#3782 - 07/25/04 02:09 AM (192.252.76.200)

Pearl orange looks awesome in person. I have gotten lots of compliments for the color. In my opinion it is the best solid color offered by IF. It took me quit a while to decide on color and I changed my mind several times. The final choices were the pearl orange, quetzal green and the metallic blue color. I wanted something unique and the pearl orange is that and more. I waited 4 months for my frame, shortage of ti. If you want the orange tape I used Salsa brand, their tape made specifically for cross applications. The color matches very well I think.
