Did my first 50 today new
#3301 - 06/05/04 09:41 PM (4.12.238.22)

...at one time.
Fast, easy, comfortable, fun. It was great. No stress or struggling and I've only had the thing a week, or so?

I was with two experienced women riders and one other inexperienced guy. One woman, a friend who raced a 24 mtb race with me, she's 50 but in way good shape (did a triathalon a couple years ago), but I was faster than her. I hung with her other lady friend at the front the whole time. In other words, I felt good, or better than I thought I would.

What's the deal with other roadies -- of course all the fine people here exempted. Passed a bunch of others. Only a very small percentage say howdy or give a wave. Snobs. What's up with that? Mountain bikers are full of howdy howdie's and encouragements at all times. Hmmmmm....

Freaking bike is comfortable and great. Amazed at how stable it is. All the hills the others stood on, I stayed sitting and pedaled up. Maybe the gearing? Whatever, having fun they blazed by me saying "come on Nev" and I quickly caught/passed them. Whatever. I know well I have light yeaars to go but did better than I thought, easily had another hour or more in me. Outstanding. This is fun.

And I love my bike. I'm pretty sure it's better than everyone else's here.

Congratulations!!!! new [Re: Nev]

Isn't a great feeling accomplishing your first "distance" ride. I remember when I did my first one, I felt awesome. What is really cool is telling non-cyclists that you rode 50 miles, they are usually blown away. Of course, they will most likely just have some smart ass comment about it. Anywho, enjoy accomplishing this one for a while then start training for your first metric century.

As for the roadies not waving you will never find an answer for that one, don't even try. I have been a mountain biker for a while now, longer than I've been a roadie. I finally gave up, I have finally fully converted, I'm just a cyclist now! BTW, I wave at everyone, sometimes they wave back, sometimes they don't. To me it's kind of just a game anymore, taking bets......will the guy on the trek 5200 wave back?????

Thanks LowCel.
I bagged another 20 miles by myself yesterday -- my legs were still going around. Hopefully some more after work again tonight. HUGE difference discovering all the great country roads that are just behind my house. We can't/don't ride the mtb trails when they're muddy here. With this bike I have way less time off now. And easier popping out of my garage. And what's this about a "metric" century? I'm hitting the road training for a good old AMERICAN mile century. It has to be done.
Thanks again. OK,
Nev

Roadies are friendly here [Re: Nev]
#3319 - 06/07/04 08:21 PM (155.91.6.72)

Congrats on the the ride. Glad it was easy.

I find that roadies in NJ and eastern PA are friendly. There's the headnod or the wave or the smile. I pass a few regulars who ALWAYS keep their gameface on, though.

Litespeed Tuscany - Team Issue new [Re: Nev]
#3349 - 06/10/04 02:10 AM (66.135.253.9)

Nev:

If your successful foray into Vortex World has convinced any of your friends to consider following you into Litespeed ownership, I'm selling a 55 cm team-issue Tuscany for a friend on eBay:

This guy was once one of the top Cat One riders in the USA, he's retired from racing now and just rides for fun, and for his bike-related businesses.

Looks like a sweet deal. I'm mostly a loner on the roads and trails due to when I can get out. My other biking friends are in AZ and get stuff on the cheap from the shop they ride on. But I know a few and will pass along.
