Where Is Everybody?
#3501 - 06/25/04 01:30 PM (24.50.168.232)

Where did everybody go? What happened? It wasn't that long ago that keeping up with the old forum was almost a full time job.

On vacation, out riding, or like me house-hunting in a new state due to job relocation. It's tough finding a new favorite bike shop in a strange town!

Hey Dave were are you relocating to? I am sure you can receive some feed back regarding shops from the forum.

Good Luck,

Lon,

I am spending the majority of my free time in the water, on the bike, or pounding the pavement. It's that time of year when training and racing rule the day. It has been a good year so far with 3 triathlons under my belt thus far. I have made steady improvement over last year with the exception of melting down during the run in one event.

My Calfee has been great this year. I notice a major difference in comfort and speed thus far. I am at least 2 mph faster than last year. This is mostly due to the fact that I am able to stay in the aero bars for the majority of the ride. This bike has a lot more talent than its rider but I am working on it.

Going 60 miles tomorrow in KY. Next stop for me is a 1/2 iron man in Cinci.

Later,
L

Sounds like you are having a great year! Congratulations. I wish you luck and all the best in the 1/2 Ironman.

Take care.

Good Luck,

If I go it will be to Missoula Montana. I just got back from 3 days scouting there. As far as shops go, there are 5 roadie shops; 1 no good just a standard type staffed with mere kids who think they know everything, 1 not too bad catering to student crowd, 2 pretty good all-rounders and 1 very good with a big service department and heavy involvement in the local bike scene.

Lots of biking in and around Missoula, both road and MTB. Some real hard-core bikers. I was there in the dead of winter two years ago, sideways blowing snow and watching a couple of bikers with studded tires merrily pedaling away.

The winters sound gruesome to me. Western PA winters are getting longer and longer and I look longingly to the southwest.

I was in Spokane and visited a bike shop that I liked. They were on a main road going north at the bottom of a hill. They did not look like much on the outside. Inside was a great mechanic who had raced and the young people he was training. I knew I was with someone who knew bikes when he knew all about my Calfee. I'll never forget they did not approve of my bar wrapping job and rewrapped my handlebar for me. The wrap did look the best it ever has. The only thing I remember to help identify it is they sold Serotta. I remember the head wrench had one.

Does this ring a bell?

That was probably Chuck Holtz at North Division Bikes. They're about 2 or so miles from where I live. My favorite LBS is in downtown Spokane, Two Wheel Transit. Even though they are 11 miles away from me, they are one of these rare stores where everything seems to revolve around the customers. I like 'em enough to to quite aways out of my way to give them all my money.

Don't know about everyone else, but I have been busy working, riding, and enjoying the long summer days way up here. Gotta take advantage of them while you can...too many crappy days come winter, early spring and late fall!!!

You are right, though Lon, the old forum definitly had a great following and alot more regular posting...not sure why this one hasn't followed suit. I know it ain't no bike issue...that is for damn sure!!!

Oh well, for now, just ride that bike of yours and worry about this subject later...LOL.
