i've ridden tubulars exclusively since about 1977. a buddy gave me a pair of c-record hi-flange (aka, sheriff's star) hubs for doing some wrenching for him. unfortuately, they are 28h (i'm 200#)so decided to build up a pair of tough clincher wheels using a semi-deep dish rim- to ensure they'd be strong enuf to stay true (hf hub+semi-areo rim=shorter spokes==hopefully, a strong enuf 28h wheelset for my weight). in the last 2 years, with an avg of 4.5K miles/yr i've had 1 flat, this yr. after 2800M i've had 1 flat on tubbies-and that was my fault-trying to ride a tire that obviously had had enuf. anyway, after 115miles on this clincher set i had a flat and trying to change it was such a pain in the ass i couldn't stop swearing at myself for this stupid experiment. BTW, good clinchers are close but, still nowhere near as supple as a good tubular, i don't care what anybody says.
