Well, new to me anyhow. Today, I picked up a 1990 Moser!! As in "Francesco". Yeah, this is a Calfee forum, but I'm jazzed about the bike. I already have a Calfee and I've been jealous of the "Christmas morning" feeling you guys/gals with the new Calfees have been getting.
It's a steel, brazed frame (no lugs except in the BB area), with mostly Sachs and Galli parts. The seat tube has no binder bolt and the post is held in with a wedge clamp like threaded steerers. 7 speed with downtube shifters and single pivot brakes. It's basically red with red anodized Galli rims. Chromed forks, seat and chain stays. The stays are only chromed about half their length.
The bike has been raced in events worldwide by Roberto (2x4) Gaggioli. It still has his name hand painted on the top tube by the team mechanic(?) and numerous scratches and chips touched up with mismatching (but close) paint. There is a lot of "character" in the paint and stickers. It even has a brazed on race number hanger under the top tube just behind the head tube.
I also got a Michelin tire brochure that shows Gaggioli racing the bike in a sprint finish (on the front page). Greg Lemond is also in the picture! Unfortunately, I left it behind at my friend's house and will need to retrieve it.
I just need to buy some tires, clean it up a bit (~12 years of dust and grime from sitting in a garage.) then take it out for a ride!!
Woohoo!! getting thrashed about on steel again!
I suppose one of these days, I'll own a bike made in the 21st century...

Sounds like a classic. I feel your excitement. Where did you get this bike, a friend, ebay,...?

Way cool, I hope you actually ride it once you clean it up.

I got it free(!) from a friend who was going to give it away to Goodwill!!
My friend, who worked in the bike industry in the late 80s and early 90s, knew Gaggioli through work and he needed some cash to return to Italy after the Coors Classic race left San Francisco. She bought it for ~$700 in 1991.
We were exchanging emails and she mentioned her plan to donate the bike. I couldn't get on the telephone fast enough to stop her. Luckily, it was night time and she wasn't planning on going to Goodwill for a few days. Whew!

Yes! I absolutely will be riding it! It will be used for some light commuting for classes I'm taking and slow "charity" rides. I ordered some tires today and it should be up and running by the weekend.
I do have a quandary though. The classes I'm taking are at a nearby jr. college. The area is safe (low crime) enough, but I'm a little concerned about theft. While the bike certainly looks "tired", it has high end components (albeit 14 years old) on it and the frame alone is from prestigious lineage. However, unless you "knew" bike components/frames, you wouldn't think much of the bike. I guess I'm just hoping the thief will pass it over for something more "marketable" and someone knowledgeable of the bike isn't a thief.
Oh well, I can only do what I can do. I guess I'll take all reasonable precautions and not worry about it.

do what NYC messengers do...
wrap the mother in spent inner tube rubber.
Ugly? yes.
Adds more weight? yes
Masks the bike's make? yes
Protects the bike from minor dings? you betcha!
Is this the best solution? Whaddya expect from free advise?!
