25th Anniversary Merckx Special Issue
#3810 - 07/28/04 03:04 PM (66.141.49.14)

I read on the Competitive Cyclist site that Merckx has decided to make a special, commemorative issue MX Leader for his 25th anniversary celebration next year. It will be painted in the old Team Motorola colors and he will only make 100 of them (with accompanying authentication paperwork). I wonder how many will hit the US? Also - why did he pick the Motorola colors? Maybe to celebrate the last time a certain 6-time TdF winner rode his bikes??

I wander how much these frames will cost? How would we go about getting one? I am in the market for one but I would prefer another color other than orange.

David - Keep your eyes on Competitive Cyclist's website - he usually has the lowdown on Merckx. I would suspect that we'll not hear much about it until the end of this year (around bike show time).

Actually I was just at the Eddy Merckx factory the last week of July and saw the 25th anniversary frame and have a few pics of it hanging up fresh from the paing shop. Untill I am able to post a few pics of it, the frame has the same style/shape as the 04 look carbon frame that Morrow is ridding. While i was there also, I wanted to buy a loose frame and the guy that gave me the tour of the factory checked his books and found the Team SC Sloping frame that Axel was going to ride but he didnt like the feel of it and went with the carbon mxm frame. So i was able to buy his frame that was made for him to ride in the Tour...When i went to buy it the next day, Boom. Eddy Merckx himself was there and i got him to sighn the frame. Whooaaa. What luck. Guess i need to post the pics i have with him sighning it also. I have not built it up yet and it will be a slow process. All 04 Campy record of course. Look for pics of these frames to come soon..

Now THAT's a great story - so, yes - is the 25th anniv. carbon or steel? I also heard from my LBS who was speaking with Gita that the Team SC may finally be in for some changes. They are adding carbon to it!
