Davidson Ti compared to Spectrum Ti...Tom? new
#4131 - 09/14/04 10:43 PM (63.69.215.110)

I thought long and hard about 4yrs ago about what kind of bike frame to purchase. I knew I wanted a custom titanium frame but it took about 6 months to make the choice, considering the frame will last a life time I feel that was time well spent. I had the final choice down to these builders; Cherry, Davidson, and Spectrum. When I made up my mind I had chosen the Davidson Titanium. I have to admit that the whole Merlin-Litespeed thing played a big role in making the final cut, whether there is any validity to it or not I liked the idea of the "small shop" builder. The Cherry's were just too expensive and didn't seem to be totally "custom". I'm really happy with my bike and feel I made a good choice but looking at all the great reviews reguarding Spectrum frames I was wondering what I might be missing. Just hoping if you could maybe compare and contrast the two frames if you are familiar with the Davidson. You never know, the only thing better than having a custom titanium bike is having TWO custom titanium bikes. Thanks.

John

I can't compare the two, but don't second guess yourself to death. The "grass is greener on the other side" attitude just prevents you from enjoying your very nice bike.

John:

As you may know, I don't really like to write stuff in this forum since it is a forum for our customers, not us. In this case though, I may be of a little help. So here goes;

Bill and his people make VERY nice bikes as you know. They are nice guys to boot. The two most obvious differences between their stuff and ours are; 1) weld style and 2) tubing availability. We use a smooth weld. You can see some of them on our web site in the owners gallery. The tubing issue is pretty simple, because Merlin makes our frames for us to our spec, we can pick from the widest range of 3/25 tubing in the industry, and then alter gauges, but lengths, shapes, bends, etc. to pretty much any degree. That is pretty much it since Davidson offers all sorts of paint options as we do. Hope this helps.
