Sloping Top Tube on Pegoretti
#4300 - 10/07/04 03:31 AM (203.85.227.29)

Hi all

I want to buy a pegoretti frame (CCKMP and/or Marcelo) but I have been told that I cannot get a sloping top tube. I see on the gallery there is a picture of a frame that clearly has a slope on the top tube. Is this available as a custom build spec only?

Any owners of CCKMP like to comment on how harsh the ride is compared with carbon frames. I presently race a C50 and had a C40 B Stay previously. Also own a 2004 Bianchi EV3 Carbon which seems very hard ride compared to Colnagos

Cheers

Brendan

It is my understanding that there is no sloping top tube available on Pegoretti road bikes. What you see on the Gallery is a mountain bike. Dario won't use plug-in carbon stays either, bless his heart.

There is some latitude with a custom Pegoretti but on certain key issues Dario has drawn his own lines.

I haven't ridden the CCKMP though I did own the Fina. As much as I liked the Fina, my Marcelo and BLE are much more to my riding tastes---and the Luigino better still for its beauty and details. The ride on Pegorettis is nothing less than sublime, more a feature of design genius than materials.

Hi to all,
I guess a lot of people out there have not seen a sloping Pegoretti before? Well, I'm a proud owner of a 46cm (ctc) Fina Estampa. It's the best frame I've ever ridden so far. Better or comparable to high-end carbon frames out there in terms of ride quality.
Have anyone seen a sloping Marcelo? I did...two of those!
Dario can do wonders...go ask him!!!

As far as I am aware Dario only slopes the top tube when the frame size dictates. IE when the frame is very small.

i own a few pegs, including a CCKMP, fina and marcelo. a marcelo is sublime steel, perhaps one of the finest go fast steel frames made. as to whether you'll like a fina or a CCKMP, that might depend on your size or strength. i find the fina to be a bit stiff (but not harsh at all) for me (a 150 lbs spinner) while i love my CCKMP. it has more flex, which i dig. there is a slight buzz to a CCKMP (zero on the fina and less than zero on a marcelo) but with the right wheels, a CCKMP is awesome. if you're smaller/lighter/spinner, maybe consider a CCKMP. if you're bigger/heavier/stronger, maybe fina. if you're human, consider a marcelo. if you're insane, own all three!

When in doubt, shut up and pedal.

Thanks for your informative post.

When you mention right wheels for the CCKMP do you mean more rigid ones or softer ones? I have ordered some CF Lightweights, also using Campag Eurus & Ksyrium Sl Clinchers and Corima Medium Tubs. I am only 136lbs not really a big gear rider apart from a pretty good sprint so I may go for the CCKMP and Marcelo.

Cheers

Brendan,

I highly doubt that Dario will build a sloper for you. I asked him, back in 98', when the great Pantani first rode a sloped Bianchi.
I asked him again in 04', this time for a friends custom frame, and his response was simply perfect, "The name on the downtube is Pegoretti, not Giant"

"Don't fall victim to fashion or fads";Dario 98,99,00,01,02,03,04,05 (Notice how Dario quickly dumped the internal headset designs, it is bogus)

Unless you have the talent of Indurain ,Ullrich,Pantani Lemond, Chiapucci(I've seen the boxes with their geometries)...let the master do his magic...and enjoy a piece of beauty, technology and passion in an otherwise ho hum frame market.

Happy riding
