Howdy-
I just got a Marcelo frame from Chicagoland Bike. I originally intended to get a full custom frame, but CBike was giving this one away, so I figured my savings would pay for a Joe Bell paint job. Anyway, I can't seem to get in touch with Pegoretti to get a custom decal set. I inquired with CBike, who forwarded my request to Gita. I also emailed the Pegoretti bros on their website (the one that says that they may not have time to answer emails). Anybody got any ideas as to how I can get baby a new set of clothes? Thanks.

I think Joe Bell should be able to make you any decals you can think of.

I have a 2001 Custom Team and recently had it painted. Since it is my pride-and-joy I wanted to make sure the paint job was done correctly! I Also tried Dario's web site and Gita for decals with no success. Gita steered me to a small paint shop in So. Cal. called Cycle Fantasy who originally designed the Custom Team paint scheme. Since I couldn't get decals or vinyl templates to work with I had to depend on Cycle Fantasy to paint on the lettering and the flame design. They did a perfect job! The "Pegoretti" lettering and the all the paint scheme was ultimate. He, Dave Wilburn, spent about twenty years painting for the Ferrari dealer in California and it showed in the quality. So, if you can't find decals, you can probably get most of it done free-hand. The cost was reasonable also. E-mail me direct if you want any more info: jlblake31@comcast.net
Good Luck! John

Bro, As a friend of Dario's and owner of 4 frames...he does not use decals, stickers etc. Everything on his frames is painted on. I just read a posting about paint chipping on Pegoretti's. B.S. My Y2k Buena Vista (now known as 8:30) has 15k Northern California miles and has returned to the promised land for rides in Dario's hood. Flawless. (I do use a plastic travel case) Beware of Bush's homeland "security" goons (Aka TSA)they are the REAL danger to your valued possessions.
Hope you enjoy your ride as I have for many years, frames and miles. Franco

Thanks for all your help, folks! I was actually able to get a hold of Dario himself, and he was very helpful in getting me on the road to my custom paint job. Thanks again, y'all!

What is the paint process for Pegs? Do they coat (clear coat) on top of the paint - and how many coats do they use? Interesting to know they paint on the decals. A

I have no clue about the actual steps that Dario's paint man uses. According to the Competitive Cyclist site, Pegoretti is bringing their paint work in house. Joe Bell, who I want to have paint the frame for me, doesn't deal with masks, etc. so he sent me to the same company that is doing all the masks for Trek's Project One bikes, Klein custom bikes and the Discovery Team bikes. (Take a look on the kleinbikes website. Some of the paint work they're doing is unbelievable!) Needless to say, the mask man hasn't had a lot of time for me. But I'm patient....

Soon, soon. The life of a full-time student requires...patience. thanks for the interest. I'm already scouting locations to shoot the bike photos that will do it justice.

I asked because there was a "rumour" that paint quality wasn't that good but they changed something and now it is OK but I have never read the full story (and I cannot testify that paint was ever below par). A

I dunno, I bought a two year old Marcelo frameset a couple of months ago, and I have no issues with the stock paint job. No bubbles, wrinkles, nothing. Just good paint.

From what I understand something like this is what happened. Some frames were sent to a painter---not the fellow who painted Dave's bike---including my own Big Leg Emma. There were some issues with this batch of bikes' paint, either it didn't adhere properly or it didn't dry or some sort of moisture got into it, anyway the result is that there are two small wrinkles in the paint on my Emma. I took the bike knowing full well that there was a paint issue. Dario personally guaranteed me that should I want the bike repainted, no problem, he would take care of it; the US Importer, Gita, supported this view. Any other bikes with these issues were pulled from stock and sent back to be repainted. Dario does NOT want bikes that are less than perfect to be out there; I was just so anxious to have Emma that I took the bike knowing full well that it was correctable. What more I understand is that 1. there are no other Pegorettis with paint problems that were sold to the public, 2. the paint problems have been rectified and the paint should be as good as ever on the incoming bikes.
Dave has my Marcelo and the paint on that bike has held up brilliantly. I didn't treat the bike with kid gloves though I did clean it and put on a nice coat of wax (which I think helps prevent chips). Dario is a stickler for things being right and he is such an honest and decent guy that he'll have it no other way. These paint jobs are not easy to do but I hear it's being brought in house, so perhaps Gianni is back at it. Pegoretti paint is unlike any other design, everyone would have to agree to that. And while I am usually a very oldschool, no loud paint job sort of guy, I make the one exception for Pegoretti because the designs are more creative, interesting, and thoughtful than any other bikes---by a long shot, imo. My next will be a GGM with Jaco as the key player in the paint. Perhaps by summer, I'm in no rush.

Thanks for replies. I agree whole-heartedly about the paint jobs - I love them. Mine still awaits dressing with groupset, wheels etc. I cannot wait to get it out in some sun (its a black and white Faema paint job - well it works for me!). The road conditions and weather are pretty forgiving here but I will still probably give it a coat of wax and hope for the best. (Do I need to treat the inside of the frame?) A

I wish I could help you out. My Peg is the only one I've ever seen up close. God bless the impulse buy.
