Calling All Tufo Tubular Riders
#4692 - 11/30/04 12:50 PM (12.76.109.7)

I am having a set of tubular wheels built. I plan to use the Tufo Tubular with sealant.

Anyone who has ridden them...what is your opinion on different models...or what have you been told by folks who ride them?

S 33 Special
S 3 Lite
Road Elite

Thank you very much.

Lon:

I believe there was a pretty good discussion on this subject on the Serotta forum not too long ago

Man, I gotta quit getting up so late. I see you knew that I was going to tell you to post on the Serotta forum. And you did!

Did not see the Serotta posts, but I have ridden all 3 of the models you listed. S3 lite is nice to ride, however it is fragile. The Elite and S33 special are pretty durable, but the ride is harsh. I also rode all 3 with sealant and no sealant. The ride is negatively affected by the sealant. As a comparison, Gommitalia tires are much nicer to ride and they can be repaired with the Tufo sealant. I have also used the gluing tape, but I have gone back to the glue. It ends up being a little easier for all situations.

Like everything else synergy is key. If you have a harsh wheel you want a softer tire. I agree that the elite roads as well as others and I agree that the ride is firm. Maybe not supple but I don't know if I I'd call them harsh. I don't want a tire flexing all over the place in the corners. If you want it softer lower the psi. I think that is a pretty good tire for a Zipp 404, for example, because the rim does a good job of mitigating the road shock.

I picked up some Vredstein Tricomp Pro Tubulars over the winter. Anybody ridden that kind before?
