Hi, everyone!
A bit of a 'noob' here, but not that new to riding
Just put a deposit down on a sweet new ride, and now I'm going to need a computer as well (gave my old one to the buyer of my previous bike). I've heard a few recommendations from some people, but I'm still a little lost in the woods here. Too many choices! :-P
Ok, I was originally considering an 'all in one' unit (I want to use the heart-rate function), like the Polar S-520. My LBS told me that I would end up selling it in no time, since the display isn't as good as others and the cycling functions aren't great.
Could go seperate by getting a digital watch to take care of the HR functions... so, if I'm talking about a computer that does bike functions only - what would be a good catch? Is a wireless unit really worth the extra (looks appealing)?
Is there a section that has a review of some of the better models? I don't need the PC functions, but am looking for just about everthing else (including cadence, or at least a cadence option). Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance - I appreciate the help!!!

I think I now know I would want a wireless unit. Was looking at the Cateye 300 "Double Wireless" (bonus points for cadence) and the Mavic Wintech wireless computers.
These seem like the better of the bunch out there... any recommendations? Perhaps others I should look at?
Much appreciated - thanks!! Aurelio

...Vetta? I have the wireless version and it has worked fine, though I have only had it since Christmas. I like the look of the unit and the large display and the buttons are easy to hit.

If you are using Shimano I like my Flightdecks. The cadence is done without wires or magnets on crankarms.

I have used an older verion of this Vetta and it is a pretty good unit. I really like the flight deck, though it is a bit chunky and hard to use at times. I have also tried a Cateye, but I broke it and I am not sure which model it was...it was fine up until a took a digger and ripped it up on the pavement. That Mavic unit is very creative...I love the skewer/sensor...slick.

Ended up getting a CatEye 7 wireless... gonna get a Nike watch to cover the heart-rate thing, and just use a simple (read: not too expensive! ;-) ) computer ~
Cheers! Aurelio

cateye is coming out with a 7 replacement that is supposed to eliminate some of the problems that the 7 had.
Is that Vetta 100 a good choice...durable???

...pretty durable, but again, I have only been using it for about 2 months now problem free (knock-on-wood). They typically sell for between $32-$40, and you can pick them up even cheaper on ebay.
