I've seen fleeting messages in the past on chain lube, but was wondering what types of chain lubes that Calfee owners prefer.
Waxed, dry or wet? Pros and cons of each?

I use Boesheild TO-9, but would advise you to not to get to wrapped up in 'which one', they're all pretty good. The main issue with chain lube is *clean* your chain regularly, *lube* your chain frequently. Chain lube is cheap and using it properly will prolong the life of the chain, which itself is relatively inexpensive.

Well as always my buddy Captain Dave gave good advice. 
I've used just about everything out there including Boeshield which I used for a good long while. I guess I'm just fickle because I tend to move on to other loves in lube. 
I'm currently using Rock and Roll on forum recommendations. I like that a great deal as well. It cleans the chain as it lubes. However as Dave said the best thing is to do it often.
You can't go wrong with either product. I've also used Dumonde. It did not keep my chain as clean BUT it really holds up in the wet and mess. Dumonde is often mentioned as well.

Thanks for the advice. I've been needing a new lube and the standard ones in the mail order catalogs aren't cutting it. Based on your suggestions and reading comments on roadbikereview, I think I'll try out the Rock N Roll.
Any suggestions on which product? Absolute Dry or Gold?

I also use Rock N Roll lube and like it a lot. I use the Absolute Dry version in the warmer summer months and the Extreme during the winter. I found the Extreme helped my chain run with less noise than the Absolute Dry in cold or wet conditions. YMMV.

FWIW, I been using White Lightning for about 10(?) years and am satisfied. Having said that, I also clean my chain about once a year (whether it needs it or not ) but do lube it about every 100-150 miles and after every wet ride.

I'll just add that the only one I've ever used that was actually -bad- was the pedros ice wax. Your chain starts squeaking after 30km, no matter how much you put on... Their synlube (road) on the other hand works great. I just got a bottle of the boeshield from nashbar, gonna try it...

I use 40W motor oil. I clean the chain with mineral spirits then run the chain through the oil. I then wipe dry with a cotton cloth. The chain is dry to touch and stays clean long enough. It's cheap and does the job. I don't change my chain as often as I should, but my gears still shift cleanly after 2600 miles.
I'll take better care of my Calfee. I am promising myself that I will.
Just to throw in a little trivia, in a book on bicycling science the mathematics of the friction increase between a chain that is lubed and one is bone dry works out to be totally insignificant. The only reason to lube is to prevent rust and squeeks, essentially.

I tried Rock and Roll Gold and Dry. I like Gold better.
I used to hot wax, but with 10 speed, I have gone to Rock and Roll. Pretty happy with it, but not as dry as hot wax. Seems to last a long time, so that is good. I use it on the commuter as well. It helps not to have to lube all the time on that bike. Too much of a hassle.

I have been using Finish Line wet (cheapo junk) on my mountain bike and am alarmed at the filth buildup on my components even after dry rides. I just purchased a road bike (alas not a Calfee - one can dream. . .) and am looking to take better care of both it and my mt. bike in the way of chain lube. I clean my components often and as recommended, but I'm just trying to learn as much preventative maintenence as possible.

Because chain 'stretch' (they don't really stretch) comes from the rollers and pins wearing, the best practice for lubing chains is to lube a *clean* chain from the inside run, wiping the outside and top of the chain with a clean rag, then letting the lube 'dry' for a period. Dirt on the outside of the chain has little to do with wear, mostly appearances. If the chain oil is getting flung about, perhaps you've put too much on.
Trying to get a few extra miles from a chain in between lubing is false economy. But still, chains (except for 10-speed) are very cheap as is good lube.
I'm a roadie and ride in primarily dry conditions. I remove and clean my chain monthly, lube weekly and install a new chain at the start of the season regardless of condition.
