Love River City. I actually picked up my beloved Luna used (only way I could afford membership in the Lucky Few), but if it hadn't been for a test ride on that Tetra at River City I never even would have known what I was missing...

I bought my first quality road bike, a Bianchi, from River City and their service & support & friendliness have been unmatched. There have been a number of occasions when my bike needed a little adjustment or a minor replacement part & they've done the job for free. That's on a $1,000 Bianchi years after the original sale--I can't imagine the lengths they might go to to please if you're purchasing a new Calfee.

They do seem to charge a bit more for parts than some other local shops, but I trust 'em entirely & the service & expertise factor is probably worth it. Good bike fitters, too, if you're looking to design a custom geometry or get the setup just right once you get the bike. Vaya adelante!

After almost a year following this site and not having the nerve to come up with a spiffy screen name, I have finally been forced to register and comment.

Yes, River City is very, very good. I got my Tetra Pro there. They were very helpful on sizing and putting up with my taste in colors. I had used them before ordering my Calfee for a wide variety of lbs purchases. Nice folks. Straight (OF COURSE only commenting on fiscal honesty).

They are like a really high end audio store. You can find the equivalent (or reasonably close) in terms of salespeople, knowledge and breadth elsewhere - just not as easily or consistently.

Looking at the bottom of this post it appears I'll now have to figure out how to manage font colors, instant graemlins (graemlins?) and other high tech stuff.

Must explain why most of the threads on this site are hardware oriented. Did I already mention the irony of so many posters here being, technically, Clydedales over 40 and beyond. (Yup, that describes me too.)

Limace, first off, welcome to the board.

You made me think because it did not ocurr to me the average age of the posters on this board. Hmmm.

Graemlins are selected easily by clicking on them.

GhostZapper,

River City is a great shop. As the others have said they are very knowledgeable and have a lot of great products. Unlike a high end audio shop, they are extemely pleasant, never snobbish, and they carry plenty of entry and midlevel stuff for the masses. IMHO this is why they are so successful.

My wife and I have purchased a number of bikes from them, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for "bikestuff" They have never done us wrong which, unfortunately, I cannot say about most of the other shops in Portland.

Mike
