Attention Framebuilders ...
#546 - 01/08/04 08:44 PM (132.160.96.54)

Dear Framebuilders,

If you can read this message it means you have been given access permissions to enter this forum and use it to hold discussions among your fellow craftsmen. The forum is not open to anyone who has not been pre-approved first and that includes most of the 200 or so Bike fanclub members we have.

I don't know if this forum will be useful to you or not but thought why not give it a try anyway. The idea is to provide a place where you can discuss your craft with other professionals and share ideas. That is, without divulging trade secrets of course. I'll leave the forum up and running for a while and see if it gets used. If not, then I'll chalk it up as bad idea and remove it. Anyway, you have the floor so enjoy...

-K

Thanks so much for this opportunity. It will be interesting to see where and how it goes.

Gary:
Thanks again. This might be a pretty good thing. None of us will need to worry about saying something that we won't want customers to get bent out of shape about.

I would be happy to give other builders any advice that I can. As some of you know, I try to not keep secrets. Ritchie has asked me a number of times how we do our seat stay tops. I keep explaining it to him, but... I don't know, maybe he will have to make a trip down so that we can show him. There are a few tricks we use to make our paint look like it does. Let me know if anyone is interested. I explained it to Joe Bell a few years back, but he decided to stick with his current system. Anyway, this may be fun.

Dave:

Well, right off the bat, I'd say that I surely can't offer you any advice on workmanship. If you are interested in how we get our clears as level as we do, just let me know. Believe me, it isn't any particular skill on my part.

One other serious thought for you and any anyone else; if you are trying to source frame parts from overseas, you may want to get in contact with Kirk Pacenti. He not only has his own stuff, but he is really good at hooking people up with suppliers overseas. He was a wonderful help when we needed to get some custom drops from Taiwan. He had the contacts and knew the tricks in communication.

Anyway ... hope your business is healthy. Take care.

Tom

Tom,

Thanks for the plug! Indeed I am more than happy to assist builders in sourcing parts. Also, stay tunned to my products page, I am planning an invetory blowout very shortly.

Ciao,

I don't know if this forum -K

Hmmm, I've either been given permission by accident or the permission code is flawed because I can read and post in here.

Your secrets are safe with me but who knows who else has been in here?

Kirk,

Did you ever hear back about the 6/4 stuff that we are looking for from Reynolds?

BTW - howdy to everyone here.
