Hello All, New guy with a few questions.
I currently ride a custom steel bike; A "freddie" built by Fred Karcher from Oklahoma. Campy equipped... Had an Eisentraut, which bit the dust, and Fred built me a heck of a nice frame! Red and Campy equipped of course!
Anyway I have been intrigued with Calfees, and after clearing the garage of some motorcycles, am looking at purchasing a Calfee. If I go with a nude carbon frame how often does the UV protectant have to be applied? Is it like sunscreen in texture? or a spray on like WD40?
Also what is the reasoning behind headtube extensions? Is this a way to get the handle bars higher for a more up-right ride? Thanks for the help. I've enjoyed lurking and y'all seem like a helpful bunch.

Calfee recommends 303 Protectant on it's nude frames. When I had my nude Luna Pro, I used 303 every month. Makes it look nice in addition to the UV proetection offered. 303 is a spray, similar to Armor-All, but not like Armor-All in that it doesn't leave a slippery, slimey residue.
Regarding the head tube extension, I had mine added so I could have the bar stem where I wanted it without having a ton of spacers. You have to be pretty sure about your sizing when ordering an extension on a bike, 'cause you can't cut it down like you would a too tall steer tube.

I generally apply 303 after riding the bike in the rain. No need to apply it if you don't get the frame wet. I also apply it when I clean the bike. It makes the carbon very luxurious looking. This is actually the main reason to reapply it, it makes the bike look great.
