Campy PowerTap SL on 2005 Tetra Pro: Too wide??? new
#5998 - 05/20/05 07:39 PM (24.110.61.100)

Has anyone else had problems with use of a PowerTap SL, configured for use with Campy, fitting within the drop outs of the 2005 Tetra Pro?

Because the SL's were hard to find, I purchased a Shimano-compatible SL, and converted it over myself to the Campy. (Saris makes a kit to do just this conversion. But, oh, the required grease/lubricant is expesive: 80$ for 4 ounces...) After the conversion, I am having problems installing the rear wheel. A couple of the threads on the rear axle are exposed on the non-drive side. The diameter of the threads is bigger than the axle, and is too big to fit within the dropouts. Thus, I have to spread the chain stays apart just a tad (~ 1-2 mm) to install the rear wheel. (I'm assuming that spreading the stays by this amount is not damaging to the frame.) Saris tech support has not heard of this problem. Has anyone else?

I'd sure call Dean or Craig.

Just a couple more pieces of info:

1. A wheel built around a Campy hub (Veloce, perhaps???) fits fine in the frame.
2. My measurement of the frame with a (Parks steel) ruler shows that the distance between drop outs is right at 130 mm.

Both of these would tend to incriminate the Power Tap hub.
