Alright folks,
I am going to the 1st Annual Calfee owners ride on August 27th. Who else is going to be there?

Looks like a nice ride and social. But it is a little far from North Alabama, so I will not be attending.

I am actually going to be on the west coast then, but in Oregon without my bike. Close, but it is not going to happen.
Have a good ride. 45 miles seems a bit short. How about a century, or at least a metric?

I plan to attend if at all possible. I understand from Steve that sign-up forms will be available on the website soon. He also indicates that the rides will be
"hilly!"

I'd love to go. It isn't that far from where I am in Oregon to Santa Cruz, which is not so incidentally a really neat town. But...embarrassment of riches department... there is a race that same weekend that I have been planning on (the High Desert Omnium), so now I don't know. Tough choice.

Yeah, but I've done nothing but crits all season. I need to try a road race sooner or later; this is well timed and it has a novice group, which many of the bigger stage races like the Cascade Classic...coming up... don't. Anyhow thanks for the reminder. You are right, of course.
The really nutty thing about Oregon road racing is that most of the road races are already over by June. They tend to take place March-May when it is still cold and rainy. My princess like nature recoils. In fact, they just moved one from July back to April....why oh why?? (What is a princess doing racing, you ask? Because you get waited on ! Hey, when else will someone hand you food --well, food sort of -- and drink and you don't even have to get off the bike  )

My big problem in coming as long as I can cash in miles is fear for either of my Calfee's. Those security people at airports are not baggage friendly and bike cases are hard to open and close. Somebody posted once their frame was trashed and you are just out and it is tough luck.
With my luck...  and there goes the Calfee. It is a long drive from Pittsburgh.

One shipping option that some have used is to send their bikes by "fedex" to the destination. You can insure the bike and if damaged, claim the full replacement value.
In contrast, I believe the airlines will give you only so many dollars/per lb! Hey, a lightweight 15-19lb Calfee or lighter, ain't gonna get you anywhere near what you will need to replace it!

Thanks. Actually after I logged out shipping by UPS/Fed X Ground or whatever dawned on me. I have friends with bike shops to use their commercial account to save money.
Now to see if US Air will actually give you a free ticket. They should for just the way they are making us suffer in Pittsburgh. Recently one guy stood in line for 5 hours only to be told to stand in another line to re-book.
Waiting for Southwest.

Lon, book online, man. It's much less hassle. Do it at 2 am, too, and there is no waiting time since it's a really slow time for booking stuff.

Would it be heresy to
A.Ship an "other" bike to ride,or
B. Not ride.
Not riding seems curiously attractive,in that I could tour the factory,meet other owners and the Calfee folks,etc,but not have the hassle/risk of shipping a bike.
I would be traveling from near Pittsburgh,PA.
Thoughts?

I wonder if Craig has some loaners???
If you fit on a 50cm, you can ride my Spectrum or the CAAD. The Vitus 979 is also available but no pic in the gallery yet.

Shipping isn't too big of a deal if you have or rent a Trico hard case. I sent my Calfee in for a refinish.
I'm the guy that lives in Pittsburgh as well. I'm probably not going even though I had hoped to. I ended up in the hospital and my recovery is slow. Plus I crashed and my leg got infected. The bummer is I'm at 3,000 for the year and never rode better. Now I couldn't keep up with a group of Calfee owners.
Do I think it heresy to not take the bike? Not at all. If you read everything it isn't that long of a ride and just a small part of the total day.

Sorry to hear you are in the hospitol.I hope you recover quickly and get back on the bike.

Where? Did you buy your Calfee from Andy?
I'm out but symptons remain and come back. I had critically low levels of sodium. This led to a few crashes high speed and slow before I realized I was sick. You lose your balance and coordination among other things.
I rode yesterday...slow shaky but still happy.
All I can say is..."SALT THEM FRIES!"

It's been a while! Are you still taking the Spin classes at Total Fitness?
I'm now about 2.5 hrs away from Santa Cruz so I'm planning on making this ride and touring the facility.

We have a local dealer here in Morgantown,and I bought it there.
I was sent to the ER once for hyponatremia(low sodium).I'm diabetic and I think I just p***ed the salt out.I use tablets called "thermotabs" now,which are available at any pharmacy by order.They have salt and potassium,and I put 1 in a waterbottle.
Most people adapt to the heat and "salt spare" after a couple weeks.I notice that my sweat gets less salty in my eyes after several weeks.That said,I don't ride well in the heat.

Has anybody received an email from Steve@CalfeeDesign regarding any updates on the ride? I have not.
The Calfee website now has a registration form (pdf file) which is due by July 25th! $60.00 for the ride which looks to include a T-shirt and dinner. I think that's a bit rich for a short ride so it better be a darn nice T and dinner.
