Seven Sola fork length new
#5649 - 04/08/05 08:11 AM (213.67.224.214)

I'm thinking about getting a nice steel Sola but has some questions about the correct fork length. Is it OK to use a 100 mm fork on this frame without altering the geometry to much? Nowadays there are a bunch of good 100-120 mm forks that are better suited for trailriding. What do you use?

Thanks

Patrick from Sweden

pewe: i ride a sola with an 80mm fork. i don't do anything outrageous-i'm too old to not mind being laid up-so for me and the type of stuff i ride 80 is perfect. as far as screwing with the geo-seven would build the bike with the proper geo's depending on the fork you want to use. mine was designed around an 80mm fork & when i replaced the original this past winter i went hunting for an 80 because the seven guys said a 100 would change the handling noticeably. that was fine by me 'cause i like it just as it is but the number of 80's still available seems to be getting fewer & fewer. give it some serious thought before you decide. good luck.

The Sola is a fast light XC bike and hence should be set up that way. 100mm is fine and you really shouldn't be putting on a fork longer than that.

If your looking for an "all mtn" rig then you shouldn't be buying a Seven Sola, period. It's not meant for any sort of craziness.

Look at the Rock Shox Reba, it's adjustable from 85mm - 115mm, I've got one on my Ellsworth Truth.

To answer your question, yes the geometry will be altered when going to a longer fork, the head angle becomes more slack which means it's not as agile through tight turns. There's benefits to a slacker head angle but not with the Sola.
