hi,
i'm considering a silver thomson masterpiece straight seatpost for my ybb. I want a sub-200g seatpost in the 27.2mm/330-350mm range.
other options include tune, new ultimate and extralite .
does anyone have any experience with the thomson post or have any other suggestions, keeping in mind the above specs?

I've used Thomson seat posts for many years and will continue to do so. They are tough, easy to adjust, hold up fine under my 95 kilo weight and seem to be the standard by which other posts are judged here in the U.S.

Thanks Dave,
any idea where to best get them online? thomson is hard to find over here so my best option may be to order it online.

First I would tell you to contact the Belgian distributor for Thomson:
Action Sports Alle des Cerisiers 25 4840 Welkenraedt 87-899770 - phone 87-899771 - fax Maybe they can advise you where to buy.
Thomson distributor list: (http://www.lhthomson.com/distributors.asp)
Otherwise there are many retailers here in the U.S. that sell the Thomson seat posts, but I'm not sure which ones might ship to Europe and what the shipping costs might be. Several retailers that I've had success with are Jenson (http://www.jensonusa.com/store/brand/?165&p=1) and Cambria (http://www.cambriabike.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=121&cat=Road+Rigid+Seat+Posts).There are many more. If you do a Google search for *Thomson seat post* you'll find them.
Good luck!

I just ordered a Thomson Masterpiece w/setback from www.superspokes.com. I've been very impressed w/their communication and willingness to offer a great deal. Ask them about deals for first-time customers. I'm not sure what their policies are for shipping internationally.

Thanks Dave, I will give them a ring in Welkenraedt and see what gives.
I have to check their pricing though, because sometimes it is cheaper buying on the Net.
I have also found Heylight which is a German firm but I find their saddle attachment method to look a bit finicky.

Just got word from my LBS, who contacted Action Sports.
They only stock the black Masterpiece, no idea how long it will take to have a silver one, and they cost 199€.
For that price I have a Moots inline Ti post.

Boy someone, government, distributor or retailer is making a ton of money on that seatpost! It retails here in the States for about 68 Euros. And that is at full retail.
Look in the ads of one of the Euro bike magazines as there are ads for American bike retailers that may ship their products to you.

I believe the thomson masterpiece seatpost is more expensive retail than 68€.
That could be the price of the thomson elite
The Masterpiece is a milled down lighter version of the thomson elite and as such costs a fair bit more.
Anyways, I found a new Moots Ti seatpost from the German dealer Rabbit Cycles but may still get a thomson for another bike.
But I certainly will NOT get it from the Belgian Importer !

I use several Thompsons on my bikes but I use a Masterpiece on my Calfee, mainly to get something a little different (though no one really can tell without looking very closely). The MP weighs about 157g, about 40 g lighter than the std post. Very easy to set up and it works like any good post should...unseen and unnoticed.
