Alpha Q too straight -- what to do?
#636 - 01/13/04 04:00 AM (68.36.177.54)

Hey there.
I'm getting a 62cm tetra, and apparently, the head tube is so long that I can't use an Ouzo fork w/out needing a really angled stem. (it's only 120cm long). So, I would need to go with Alpha Q, but I don't like it b/c it's so straight and lacks the flow of the Ouzo. any thoughts?

As I recall, I think you can order the forks with different rakes. So, contact Calfee and ask. You may want something with a rake of 43.

Alpha Q makes a fork with 42 mm of rake that is curved not straight. Calfee can oder it for your bike.

I don't understand your problem new [Re: Risky1]

For a given rake, the front axle ends up in the same place whether the fork has straight legs or curved legs. The Alpha Q is angled at the crown, the Reynolds is straight at the crown and bends the legs, but the end result is the same.

You must choose a rake based on the head angle.

Are you saying the steerer tube is too short or you don't want to use a stem with rise?

Stella Speaks? new [Re: dfcas]

The steerer of the standard Ouzo pro is too short for the headtube and even though Reynolds offers a long steerer Ouzo, the rake is a 43 and you need a 40 or 41.Are you getting a headtube extension?
It seems that Alpha Q is one of the only companies that offers many rakes in their long steerer and standard steerer forks.
Just like 1 1 /8th, the industry seems to want to homogenize to 43 rake on all forks. While on 54cm and 56 cm and even 58 cm it can be OK. What about the other sides of the spectrum and other riding styles???? Thoughts?

The solution is quite clear.Calfee should make their own forks in the required rakes and make the steerers long enough. This fork would be called the ....STELLAr....
