Hello -
I'm relatively new to cycling. Fortunate to find and fall hard for my Luna. It came built with Campy components including 9-spd, short cage, 11-23 w/ 53-39. How can I change this out to get a broader range of gears (13-29?).
I'm good with a double, but afterall I live on a Mt. and well......I'm old (not really- but darn old enough). Where can I go beyond my 23, keep Campy and not drop $$$$$$$$$ ?
I need tech support before wandering into no woman's land - ie bike shop.

You could get a 9 speed campy cassette that will give you a 13-26 but this is not a huge difference from what you have. It will be better than a 23 but maybe not as much as you'd like and certainly not like a 29. The 13-29 is only available for 10 speed parts. There may be aftermarket cassettes you could get - I've heard of folks running shimano cassettes with 9 speed campy - but you said you wanted to stay with campy.
The 10 speed upgrade is a pretty costly one...

I'm so old (not really). I installed a 48/34 front chain ring to get reduced ratio. This combination gave me 34/27 (Shimano). I also have an option by which I can use 34/34 ratio with using an MTB cass in rear, though this requires an MTB rear derailleur. Climbing on hilly mountain area (around 10% grade), I occasionally use the latter one with ease of ride and peace of mind. Mine is TA Zephyer light.

Branford bike has a loose 9-speed Campy cassette in 13-28 whick "might" be enough for you.Its effectively almost 2 more gears.
Be careful tho you may need a new lockring and
ask them if your rear derailleur will work OK.I'm pretty sure it will.

Yes, if you want/need more gearing, as stated above, Campy sells a 13x28 9 spd cassette. Nashbar has it ON SALE NOW for $24.95:

If you look at the link, they list only a 13x26 in the description, but if you look at the order box, there is a 13x28 available for $24.95.

good find. i'm planning a cross bike build and have been leaning toward 10 speed because of the horrible selection of cassettes i've seen with 9 speed. this will just make the decision harder - but i guess that's a good thing ;-)

I've used Campy Record 10 speed w/ a Campy 13-29 cassette on a few trips to europe w/ loads of steep climbing and it works fine. Campy reccomends a medium cage derailure, but I've run it twice on the regular short derailure and it worked just fine. Just ask you local bike shop to set it up well and you should be rockin'
