Seatposts for your Klein roadbike
#654 - 01/13/04 07:08 PM (65.198.3.2)

All the Klein road bikes I've found data for take a 31.6mm seatpost. This is a pretty unusual size for a roadbike, in fact I found NO other road bikes in Sheldon Brown's database that take this size. Thomson, Richey, Race Face, FSA, Easton, Salsa, Control Tech, and Bontrager make excellent seatposts in this size but they're mostly targeted to the high-end mountain bike market where large diameter seatposts are common. I was surprised to learn that the Campy Record carbon seatpost also comes in this size. Why would Campagnolo make their highest quality road-exclusive seatpost in a size that only one road bike in the world requires?

Because that road bike is Klein.

U.S.E and Cane Creek both sell shims that will allow you to use other seatposts if you want.

I suspect there may be some newer "compact geometry" aluminum road bikes out there now that may require a 31.6, but I couldn't find any. Clearly Campagnolo recognizes that Klein owners alone will be a sufficient demand for this item.

LOL....well said! Hey i was lookin at the "meaty" Bontrager seatpost adorning a Klein at the LBS and i must admit that i rather perfer the chunky dimentions of that to the more "dieted" type. Everything else on the bike is oversized so it makes sense to have an oversized seat post too! Boy am i glad campy make their record seat post in the larger diameter!

Hey just out of curiosity, how tall are u in cms? and wot size frame do u use Diabloscott? Also need some advice in choosing right length of stem and handlebars when ur ready o wise one!

I'm 177cm and ride a 55cm with an 11cm Klein MC3 stem and 42cm Deda 215 handlebars. I think I have short arms for my size and I always get a stiff neck on long rides but the Klein stem has some rise and that helps. Klein went to even sizes only a few years ago so you don't see 55cm any more.

Your LBS is a much better source of advice on fitting the stem and handlebars than I am - use them, you paid for it! The Klein web site has some good fitting information and you can use that as a guide but there's nothing like having someone look at you in the different positions to gauge the best fit.

Hey - how about starting a new thread? Think of a topic and then just rant. Maybe "The First Klein I Ever Saw", or "Will Klein Ever Sponsor Another Pro Team?". The idea is just to get things rolling so we have lots of posts and lots of threads and people who come to this site will stick around and make more posts - as many as the Calfee people!

Here's a link to Mike J's article (and photos) about riding on Mt. Diablo - I get to do this twice a week!
