Interbike is here....2005 is winding down.....
how many of you are planning for a new bike
for 2006? I recently sold my bike and hopefully
will be on Calfee for 2006.

You will love your Calfee whichever one you pick. No new bikes for me this year. My budget right now will be lucky to get a crank I need.

I'm hoping I could get a bike this year but it's still up in the air. The only thing I can say is I've decided I want a Calfee and it's only a matter of ability and time.

I have had a Tetra Pro frame on order for 15 1/2 weeks. Calfee is still having trouble getting a fork from Reynolds. The frame has been finished for something like 5 weeks. I have a D/A 10spd group and everything else that I need except a stem. Just waiting for Reynolds. It is going to be a fair weather bike, so it probably doesn't matter at this point. The rain is coming soon.

Idea...Calfee will refinish a fork you have if you are dead set on a Reynolds. You could get it somewhere else and ship it to them. I'd call. There is a charge for refinishing.

I got an Alpha Q, which was highly recommended by Craig. It's a fantastic fork and beautiful too.
Why not, especially if Reynolds is the hold-up?

Within a few weeks I should have a new Vanilla coming my way. According to Sacha, the frame is almost done and the stem and fork are done. He just needs to braze "Vanilla" onto the downtube and then have the frame painted, which he is still thinking about. I was also thinking of picking up a Surly Steamroller for some commuting on nice days when I don't have to carry any loads (no extra clothes, lunch for work, etc.) and can go with a bare bones bike.

We tried the route of my LBS getting one and sending it to them. They found one after much searching and it failed the Calfee quality test.
I talked to Steve and Calfee and he recommended sticking with the Reynolds Ouzo Pro for my weight and frame size. Otherwise the Alpha Q is a very nice fork.

Forks failing their testing is something I found out in talking with Craig when gettng my Fly. I was surprised that it really isn't unusual.
It makes you wonder how many folks with a high speed shimmy etc. have fork problems. If you weren't getting one from a bike company that does testing who would know?

Actually, it makes me wonder how many people have "bad" forks and absolutely no handling problems whatsoever.
During the factory tour part of the Calfee Owner's Ride, the issue of poor QC and forks was talked about while in the Calfee Design machine shop. Previously, lots of forks were being rejected (it's a much better situation now). I wondered why Calfee frames were more sensitive to the bad forks than other frame builders using the same fork.
...guess I missed out on my opportunity to ask The Man.
...maybe next year.

I would love to try the new Carbon Soloist from Cervelo. No chance of that unless I sell either my Tetra Pro or Lemond Tete de Course. I did enter their contest. I can hardly wait not to win!
