I know this subject was taken up once before on the forum, as I remember it when I bought my calfee (Tetra). But it's been some time, and I can't find in the archives. I love my bike and I can say it's nearly perfect, except for these pesky waterbottle mounts! I've got Andurels, and I hold them down with nylon washers, but the still protrude too far and they scratch up my bottle mercilessly. Anybody else use Andurels, and got a better solution?

We regularly mount arundel cages with no problems by simply inserting a washer between the cage and the frame. this allows for the stud to sit below the level of the nylock nut supplied with the frame. this setup shouldn't scratch your bottles.
good luck

Ditto.....My wife and I have Arundels on 3 different Calfees, all using the washer below the cage trick. None of them scratch the bottles. Use the washers that came with the cages, and don't use a washer between the cage and the nut.

thanks to both of you that responded. It seems the problem is that I never recieved the nylon nut supplied with the frame from my LBS. I've been using a nylon hex nut from home depot. I'll go talk to the shop owner about it. Thanks.

It's not a nylon nut, it is a 'nylock' nut. It has a nylon insert that grabs the threads and keeps the nut secure. And it's metric.

Thanks! I just came back from my 'birthday ride' that I do every year, regardless of weather. (and there can be some kinda weather here this time of year) I was going to ride a mile for every year, but that would have taken all day. So I did a hard 20 instead.

You can always hacksaw off some the threaded stud sticking out. Be sure to install a steel nut before cutting. The nut will help to clean up the first thread that gets folded over from the cutting. I would also advise you to clean up the first thread with a file before unthreading the nut.
The downside to this method is if you change cages and need a longer stud...

Elite Patao Carbon works great on my Tetra Pro, then again, I have the correct nylon lock nuts.

use one of the nuts that come with your tubes (the ones designed to keep the valve from pushing into the rim when inflating a tire) and place it on the boss before putting the cage on. instant lift, works perfectly!!
