First Rate Customer Service
#6925 - 11/04/05 05:21 AM (67.169.226.166)

I'm lucky to be close enough to the Calfee factory to be able to bring my bike in if I have a concern or question. Both times I've stopped in, Craig, Dean and Steve have been so generous with their time and knowledge that I just wanted to post to let everyone know! The Calfee folks have gone above and beyond for me and without a doubt, exemplify superior customer service.
5 Stars!!

I will second that. I had to send my frame in for some modifications & had an incredible turnaround time. I have never had such great customer service on any product of any kind.

I have to say that I haven't had the same experience as you two have. I ordered my frame and fork in mid June and I am still waiting for delivery. Most of the problem has been with Reynolds supplying the fork which I totally understand, but Calfee does not seem to make an effort to follow up with Reynolds unless my LBS calls and reminds them that we are still waiting.

Here is a classic post blaming the messenger rather than the source of the problem. Obviously Reynolds must have lousy customer service if they cannot tell the buyer when their product will ship or give updates why it is late. It isn't the job of a very busy bike shop owner nor of a very busy factory owner to keep track of lousy vendor service. I would ask my bike shop to give me a contact at Reynolds with whom I could talk. I would strongly suspect there must be a problem at Reynolds that you didn't get your fork you ordered, yet. If I were you I'd change to a different brand of fork and forget about Reynolds. It's not like they have a superior product.

Ditto. Craig also highly recommends the Alpha Q as do many on this forum. Great fork. Move on. Reynolds makes good forks but they aren't the only ones.

I can't believe you're still waiting this out....

I see both of your points and maybe that is the case. My issue is with the communication not the wait. I have other bikes to ride while I wait. My LBS was being told that everything was under control and that Reynolds had the fork and it would be shipped out the next day, then two weeks later nothing has happened.

I am not mad, just disapointed. Such a big deal is made about Calfee customer service when what I have experienced is about the same as any other frame maker I have dealt with. I thought it would be different, that is all.

I am still waiting because I did discuss changing forks with Steve and we came to the conclusion that with my frame size and weight, I needed to stick with my original choice.

Could you clarify for us who made the statement that Reynolds had the fork and it would be shipped out the next day? If it was someone from Reynolds, then you deserve, from Reynolds, an explanation for the holdup.

I understand, as well, the engineering that goes with specifying a bike and that it often requires a complete re-engineering when you change one component that is critical such as the fork. That said, I am in sympathy with you in that you are stuck without knowing what is going on with the fork. Reynolds is a huge company. I have not heard anything bad about them so it is very puzzling that they can't get a fork made up for you in less time than it has taken. Start to finish couldn't take more than one week in a larg composite manufacturing company.

Someone from Calfee was dealing with Reynolds directly and then relaying the planned schedule to my LBS based on what Reynolds was telling them. The fork has been the only hold up for all of Sep and Oct. The theory I have heard is that Reynolds is focussing on their wheels now and small builders are not getting the service that they are used to from them.

My fork is a Ouzo Pro 40mm rake with an XL steerer. Not something that is normally stocked apparently.

The latest is that they are on track for a Monday Shipment and that my LBS will have it mid week. My fingers are crossed.

I am sure that in a month I will love the ride of the bike so much that I will forget about all of this.

Roll With It new [Re: cccyclist]
#6952 - 11/07/05 03:32 PM (24.53.254.50)

My daddy always taught me that everything happens for the best. I've found eventually all does work out for the the best. Plus I believe that if you don't accept that you can easily end up in a padded room, mean and bitter or just plain crazy. I just try to roll with the punches and come up laughing.
