Which Classic Paint Job, If you please... new
#529 - 01/08/04 04:21 AM (66.82.9.62)

I'm contemplating a custom Corsa 0.1 with a threaded fork, dt shifter bosses, the usual array of (m)old school stuff that no one wants anymore but guys like me...

If you could have it in Molteni, 7-11, or Motorola, which one would you pick?

My first instinct would be Molteni but I have a comparable bike...so I'd like to be dissuaded unless you are the sort to persuade.

clearly winter has set in,

dbrk
thanks in advance!

you know, I like'em all. Molteni is my fav, but given what you said I would go with Motorola. I like the 7-11 colors, but after a while, it's too much like "Christmas"!

Maybe you should do something completely different - maybe a solid color other than Molteni???

I would have to project my own desires and vote for the 7-11 team colors. If I was arguing, I would contend that it is a bit rarer than the Motorola, pays tribute to Amercia's first euro-pro squad and looks cooler to my eyes. I'm also biased by the fact that I already have one so naturaly I want what I don't already have.

I've given up finding a frame in my size in that color scheme and have considered having my AX-TI painted to match. Kind of like Lance's Litespeed ringer at the 91(?) worlds.

Dbrk,

How can you not look at dnovo's Motorola MX and not lust? I for one could care less about 711 or Molentini. However, if the Corsa is a thinner tubed bike, then it may lend itself better towards the older team colors of Moletini tradition.

That Motorola though... hola!

When I got my 7-Eleven motif Corsa everyone wanted the Motorola paint job so I got my frame for a good price. If I had to do it all over again, I'd *still* pick 7-Eleven. I love looking at old bike magazines and seeing Andy Hampsten, Davis Phinney, Ron Kiefel, Sean Yates, and even Bobke riding what appears to be MY bike. Yeah, it looks a little like Christmas… so what?

Motorola and Telekom designs are a little fancier but 7-Eleven has more soul.

The fewer colors, the better, imo. Molteni first, then 7-11, then motorola. However, I think the Molteni colors are really being pushed now, I'd expect to find a lot of them. If you're looking to be different, that may not be the choice. The 7-11 colors look great to me. I never thought red and green could look so good together. The motorola is very nice, but for some reason the frame looks better alone than when built up imo. The three colors give the appearance of being bold at one end and muted at the other, which isn't as appealing to me. Hopefully you can get chromed stays. Good luck and tell us what you decide.

my mid-90s MX leader off of eBay just arrived last week. motorola colors. colors are nice but i agree that it's a bit christmas-y. i bought frame for its ride, so the color is a non-issue. but if i were going to buy one new, no question at all. molteni. a pure classic. an homage to eddy at the peak of his career. and who else but eddy could make orange cool? dbrk, no one can be persuaded unless they wish to be. and nothing i've ever read of yours leads me to believe you wish to be persuaded. you like finding your own answers. then sticking to them. with a death-like grip.

dbrk,

If it is classic you are after, Eddy is the way to go, though personally I prefer the headtube logo as EM rather than the "replica" mugshot of Eddy. If your current similuar bike of this color is not an Eddy, I'd do the orange anyway. Second choice would be 7-11.

I recently picked up a MX Leader, nos ebay find. Could not really tell the color of the item from the ebay photo, blackish. I didn't care, it was my size. When I received it, it was a beautiful charcoal/black metallic, with airbrush work and the name on the st and dt were an airbrushed fade, top to bottom, in a teal green to pinkish, reminisent of both Motorola and 7-11. Finished off with a burgendy cork tape, I think it's a great color combo I have not run accross elsewhere. I'll post a photo sometime soon, as I need to borrow a dig camera.

Have fun spec'ing your new ride.

Seems a pal of mine has Axel Merckx's Motorola bike, an MXL 61x58, 84cm soh, 21cm htl, 96cm bar drop. It should fit perfectly. The bike has a few thises and thats but these are indestructable and a few nicks means you pamper it less. Okay, now I got my eyes set on a Corsa in Molteni...

Pictures of Merckx's Merckx as soon as I have it together (And many thanks to my pal if he is peeking in...)
