yikes!

just came in from my usual thurs. nite mtb ride. i really didn't want to do it (it was a windy 6 degrees at the start & 4 at the end) but i wasn't gonna be the one to wimp out. we did about 1.25 hrs. and man was it cold. i can keep everything warm except for my toes and i couldn't have lasted much longer. nite riding is such a blast-makes you feel like your 10 all over again. anybody else into it? can't wait for this weekend-the temps are going to be in the balmy 20's-after this week 20's will feel like summer.

i haven't done it in a while but for a couple years i did two to three night mtb rides a week. i absolutely LOVE them. riding hard in normal conditions is fun because of the way the extreme efforts can change your perception - but doing the same at night with just a light (or no light on those full moon nights) to guide your way is an amazingly unique sensory experience. it was like a drug to me.

i have my first baby now (8 months) and all i can think of when the day ends is a little bit of time for me and the wife or for myselft and then getting some sleep. i used to be a night person but now i'm usually up before the sun - so my rides have moved to early morning rides. they have their own advantages but the sensations are nothing like a night ride.

i'll have to admit, my night riding days were done in southern california where you could ride in shorts and a sleeveless shirt for the great majority of the year. single digit riding? i'm not even closed to prepared for that.

glad you had such a blast.
