Campagnolo ergo brake hoods, installation.
#7010 - 11/24/05 04:23 PM (65.93.15.132)

I have purchased new (pointy style) brake hoods for my 9 speed ergo levers but I’m having great difficulty in installing them.

I removed the old ones by pulling them over the front of the lever but the new ones don’t seem to want to stretch enough to get them over the carbon hood.

Is there a trick somebody can recommend?

Thanks.

A little soapy water placed inside the hood and on the lever housing should coax them on, but you have to be careful and take your time doing it.
If you rush the job you might tear the hood and that will not be good for sure, by the way pointy style was the older version hoods, the newer ones have the rounded tops.

It's amazing how much stretch the hoods have - but that's not a good reason to use all of it - it will only shorten their life.

Soapy water is good, get the thumb button through it's slot in the hood early and then just slide the hood over the top.

Also, consider rolling the hood back over itself before mounting. This is more easily visualized from the perspective of the hood being on the lever. In that case, peel the edge nearest to the handlebar forward over the brake (slipping the thumb button out of it's slot as you go) until you're near the point (or round nub on newer levers). Then reach under the top of the rolled hood and pull it over the point. At this point the hood will fall off the lever. Now, try this approach in reverse. There is much less pulling of rubber against the lever this way. So much so that I've never had to resort to soapy water.
