Has anyone participated in the Arnie Baker training program at Kirkwood to prepare for the Death Ride? What was your experience.

No.
Are you looking to race it, or just complete it?

I'll be happy just to finish the ride. The most I have done to date are some centuries with only half the climbing.

Where are you located? I may be able to suggest some training rides if I know where you are. I have done the 5 pass ride twice officially and once on my own.

In that case whatever you did to train for the centuries will work for the Death Ride, too. You will just need to add more hills and distance to your training. Also, make sure you're prepare for the altitude. As rule of thumb for my training, my long ride will always equal 75%+ of the event. Good Luck.

If you don't participate in the Baker camps, I'd recommend you arrive a few days early and ride the climbs over several days. This recommendation isn't for acclimatization to altitude, but to mentally prepare you for the climbs and how long or difficult you may find them to be. If you can't arrive early enough to ride the climbs, at least arrive early enough to drive the climbs.
The first climb over Monitor Pass and the last climb up Carson isn't too bad because you have a relatively good idea where the top is based on topography. But the middle passes over Ebbetts can be mentally very demoralizing since it's in a forested area and you can't even begin to guess where the top is!

Belonging to a club in the Palo Alto - Los Altos (CA) area I have spoken with a number of members who have done the Death Ride. I was hoping someone would have some direct information on this specific training camp. Thanks all for your suggestions.
