Long Valve On Deep Carbon Wheels new
#6815 - 10/21/05 03:24 PM (202.156.6.52)

Does anyone knows how to solve the rattling noise problem from the valve extension that makes during each turn of the wheel(deep carbon wheel)while riding on low to high speed? It's very annoying. Appreciate all feed backs.

Since no one has given any suggestion yet I have one that may help: tap something into the gap where the stem goes through the wall. Not having any idea how big the gap is something like a toothpick might work. Another thought is a small bead of RTV might be spread around where the valve stem goes through and allowed to cure. I would guess that it doesn't take much to just prevent the stem from rattling.

How about a little itty bitty bit of plumber's putty?
Maybe?

An O-ring around the stem, slid down to where the stem enters the rim.

Shrink Tubing - Put it on the adapter before you attach it to the original valvestem

Yes a bit of heat shrink tubing from stores such as Radio shack should solve the problem of the rattling by the rims valve hole.
Take along the tube so as to find one thats closest to fitting the valve shaft snugly, and buy a few lengths of it too,as it eventually will shrink tightly around the valve after a bit of use and you will not be able to reuse it.

Any updates on this one?
Had the same problem with my Lew wheelset and my fix was to unscrew the valve extender and tape the hole with electrical tape. I've tried the heat shrink tube and taping the extender but the rattling won't go away.

I would suggest you try an experiment first by removing the valve extender to make sure that it is that which is causing the noise. If so, then if you had it tight in the exit hole with something you wrapped around it, then it may be rattling where the tube comes through the first hole. You might, in that case try something around the stem of the tube itself.

I already tried them all. I'm suspecting a lousy glue job around the valve. I think I didn't put enough glue on the rim and tire around the valve area which is causing the click 6 inches before the tire/valve area hits the pavement and the clack sound 6 inches after. Now if you could imagine that click/clack sound everytime the wheels turn, man, it gets annoying
And I am a lazy guy when it comes to a re-gluing job
Ohh well.... I'll have to do it sooner or later anyways.
Will report back when I get the re-glue job done.
