Time to make a decision for the new Calfee. Alpha Q or the Easton EC90 SLX. The old Calfee had a Alpha Q and it was fantastic with the Luna. Anybody have any experience with the Easton? I am concerned with it's very light weight. The Easton comes in at 300 grams, just about the same as the Alpha Q sub 3. The sub 3 is not recommended for riders over 200lbs. Being the cautious one that I am I have ruled out the Sub 3; I cannot find anything on a recommended rider weight limit for the Easton. By the way I am about 170 lb.

I had a EC90, not the new SLX version, and I was never happy with it, all though it seemed to be a decent fork. My main issues were that it was very flexy, and chattered a quite a bit under deep braking. Mine also had a noise a if something was rattling inside one of the legs...it drove me nuts on the rougher roads I ride on and I could never fully trust the fork. It never did fail on me and the current owner of it hasn't had problems with it after I sold it, that was a year ago. The fork does ride nicely and looks really sleak...I got compliments all the time on it!
I don't think you will have any problems with the SLX version and your weight is not in the red zone for such a lightweight fork. I'd say go for it, if your stuck on Easton, otherwise stay with the Alpha Q...IMHO.
Keep us posted on your decision. ...Mark

Just received my new Dragonfly Pro with the Alpha SubQ3...excellent fork...very solid. You mentioned you are about 170 lbs...the fork is rated at 200...what's the concern? I also extended my headtube 2 cm and picked the 1 1/8" headtube. Used the KING headset...much more solid than my previous Trek 5900 with the Cane Creek H/S!

Not really a concern; just overly cautious. Don't want to get to close to the red zone on the fork. I think I have decided on the Alpha Q Pro. I had a True Temper employee talk me out of the Easton EC90 SLX this morning(about 300 grams, to close to the red zone)and the EC90 SL (360 grams)does not come with straight blades. My wrecked Luna had a Alpha Q, the older Pro version, and I absolutely loved it. Thanks again.

Wonder if you made your decision yet.
I just got a TP with Sub 3 fork last month. I weigh about 190 lbs. and there is no problem with flex or chatter. Very solid. Handles out of the saddle sprints and climbs with ease and descents are stable. Speaking of stability, I can ride no hands on the TP with ease. Tracks straight as an arrow.
I would have no question about the Sub 3 at your weight. Great fork!

Hey all,
Decision made; went with the Alpha Q Pro. Just feel better with a little more under me. Another positive note, ordered the new frame from Dean 4 weeks ago, got the call yesterday. Frame and matching fork will be here Tuesday. Go Calfee:)
